Ferrari’s Rumored Manual V12 Could Be the Ultimate Answer to EV Critics

TwitterWhatsappLinkedin

Ferrari may have just found the perfect way to calm enthusiasts still upset about the unveiling of the all-electric Luce. While the Italian automaker continues to push toward electrification, fresh rumors now suggest that Maranello could be preparing something deeply nostalgic a manual-transmission Ferrari powered by a naturally aspirated V12.

And if the speculation turns out to be true, this could become one of the most desirable Ferraris of the modern era.

Ferrari Fans Want Emotion, Not Just Innovation

The conversation around Ferrari shifted dramatically after the debut of the Luce EV earlier this week. The four-door electric grand tourer divided opinion almost instantly. Some praised Ferrari for entering a new era, while many traditionalists questioned whether the brand was moving too far away from its emotional roots.

Now, attention has quickly moved toward a very different kind of Ferrari.

According to growing rumors circulating among Ferrari enthusiasts and automotive insiders, the company is reportedly developing a special version of the 12Cilindri equipped with a gated manual gearbox. The speculation originally surfaced on FerrariChat before gaining traction through multiple automotive sources and Ferrari-focused social media accounts.

If accurate, the car could be officially revealed during this year’s 24 Hours of Le Mans.

The Return of the Manual Ferrari?

Ferrari has not sold a manual transmission road car since the manual California and 599 disappeared more than a decade ago. Since then, the company has focused entirely on lightning-fast dual-clutch automatics designed for maximum performance.

But times are changing.

Across the performance car world, brands are beginning to realize that engagement matters just as much as outright speed. Porsche, Aston Martin, and even some hypercar manufacturers have embraced manual gearboxes again for limited-production models aimed at collectors and driving purists.

Ferrari appears ready to join that movement.

The rumored manual variant is expected to remain extremely exclusive, allowing Ferrari to maintain its premium positioning while creating massive demand among collectors.

Trademark Filings Add Fuel to the Fire

The rumors became even more believable after new trademark filings linked to Ferrari surfaced online.

Among the names discovered were “12Cilindri MM” and “12Cilindri GTO.”

The MM badge is widely believed to reference the legendary Mille Miglia road race, an event deeply connected to Ferrari’s historic front-engined grand tourers. That alone makes it the perfect candidate for a retro-inspired manual transmission model.

The GTO name, meanwhile, carries enormous weight in Ferrari history. From the iconic 250 GTO to the 288 GTO and later the hardcore 599 GTO, the badge has always represented something special — lighter, sharper, and more focused.

A modern front-engined V12 Ferrari carrying both a manual gearbox and a GTO badge would instantly become automotive royalty.

Ferrari May Have Created the Perfect Balance

What makes this rumor especially interesting is the timing.

Ferrari is entering the electric age, but it also understands the emotional side of its brand better than almost any automaker in the world. Launching a limited-production manual V12 while simultaneously introducing EV technology could allow Ferrari to satisfy both future-focused buyers and traditional enthusiasts.

In many ways, it feels like Ferrari reminding the world that innovation does not mean forgetting where it came from.

If the reports are true, the return of the manual Ferrari may not simply be a nostalgic exercise. It could become the company’s smartest move in years.
