Forza Motorsport has officially reached the end of its active development cycle. Microsoft and Turn10 Studios have confirmed that the game will receive no further content updates, effectively placing the 2023 reboot into end-of-life status. While the announcement may not surprise long-time fans, it still marks a significant moment for one of Xbox’s most recognisable racing franchises.
The confirmation appeared in Forza’s recent “Year in Review” blog post, where the studio stated it has no plans to add new cars, tracks, features, or routine bug fixes going forward. The focus, instead, has shifted entirely toward supporting Playground Games and the upcoming Forza Horizon 6, expected to launch in 2026.
A Reboot That Never Fully Found Its Rhythm
Launched in 2023, the eighth Forza Motorsport title dropped its traditional numbering to signal a fresh start. Built exclusively for the current console generation, expectations were high. The game aimed to re-establish Motorsport as the definitive simulation racing experience on Xbox.
Reception at launch, however, was mixed. Critics praised the driving physics and visual fidelity but raised concerns around progression systems, missing features, and overall polish. Over time, Turn10 addressed many of these issues, steadily improving the experience through updates and new content.
That momentum peaked earlier this year with a major anniversary update celebrating 20 years of Forza. The return of the iconic Fujimi Kaido circuit was widely welcomed and suggested that the franchise had finally found its footing.
Layoffs and a Shift in Priorities
Shortly after that milestone update, reports emerged that Turn10 Studios had been affected by significant job cuts. Industry speculation quickly followed, suggesting that Forza Motorsport development had been deprioritised internally.
While Turn10 initially stated it would “continue to support” the game, the absence of new content after mid-2025 made the situation increasingly clear. Updates since then have been limited to unlocking previously time-restricted events and making them permanently accessible.
According to the latest confirmation, this process will continue until all limited content is available, after which updates are expected to cease entirely.
What This Means for the Motorsport Series
The bigger unanswered question is the future of the Motorsport franchise itself. With most remaining Turn10 staff reportedly assisting Playground Games, it’s unclear whether a ninth Forza Motorsport is even on the roadmap.
If this does turn out to be the end, it closes a chapter that helped define console racing for nearly two decades. Motorsport was once the technical counterweight to Horizon’s open-world appeal. Losing that balance would be a notable shift in Xbox’s racing portfolio.
For now, Forza Motorsport remains playable and content-complete. But its journey as a living, evolving platform is officially over.
