The search giant, Google, unveils a massive boost to India’s artificial intelligence capabilities with Search Live, a new conversational search product that allows individuals to engage in real-time, voice interaction with the search engine. The development positions India as the second-largest market after the United States to avail the advanced technology, as it was first launched there.
Search Live is a new breakthrough in search engine interaction with humans. People no longer need to take the time to sit in front of a computer, enter their queries, and browse results.
It is easy to aim the camera of their smartphone at things around them and engage in natural, flowing dialogue with Google’s AI in order to get instant assistance. Both voice and visual capabilities come into the equation, supporting a seamless multimodal search experience that is more conversational in nature than that of a typical search appliance.
Google Expands ‘Search Live’ AI Mode to Seven More Indian Languages
The new feature is to be available through AI Mode, also being expanded by Google to handle seven more Indian languages. In addition to English and Hindi, with which Search Live will begin, AI Mode is to operate in Bengali, Kannada, Malayalam, Marathi, Tamil, Telugu, and Urdu. This multilingual move shows Google’s initiative to bring advanced AI technology to India’s diverse citizens.

The choice of India as the second such market for Search Live was not random. As per Hema Budaraju, Search’s vice president of product management, Indians are “power users” of multimodal search, Google’s largest user base for voice and visual search features anywhere in the world. Its active uptake of newer search technologies thus brought India into the orbit of choice for the roll-out of the expansion.
The Search Live applications are extraordinarily diverse and address daily situations that Indians commonly experience. The blog by Budaraju described a few practical applications: fixing technical issues, addressing DIY home repair projects, supporting kids with homework, or navigating new places.
An example mentioned in the release illustrates the possibility of a person trying to prepare an iced matcha in the home pulling out Google in their camera and asking, “What is a good order to combine these to make an iced matcha?” and being shown instant, personalized directions.
Google’s Conversational ‘Search Live’ Feature Debuts in India
Upon activation, users can aim their camera at anything or anywhere and talk naturally to Google, the latter of which shall give real-time answers and retain the context of the whole discussion.
That conversational flavor of Search Live makes it different from regular search. The user can pose follow-up questions, ask for clarifications, and explore details further without having to re-initiate search or rephrase queries.
Its ongoing dialogue feature enhances the search process intuitively and efficiently, especially for highly complex activities that could need more than one distinct search.
Google’s Search Live Rolls Out in India
Search Live is being rolled out in India from today, but availability shall roll out step-wise in stages in order to include more people in due course, the company says in explaining why it needs to monitor performance, aggregate user feedback, and make sure that the system functions successfully in India’s heterogeneous network conditions and device environments.
The timing of this launch is particularly significant as tech companies increasingly recognize India’s importance as a testing ground for AI innovations. With a massive smartphone user base, linguistic diversity, and high engagement with mobile technologies, India offers unique insights that can shape how AI tools evolve globally.
Search Live was finally launched in the US in July, so Google had some time to fine-tune the technology based on local use patterns. The experience from the US market would then help prevent kinks for Indian users from day one.
As information access continues to be revolutionized by artificial intelligence, features such as Search Live is a glimpse of the search of the future, one in which technology evolves based on human behavior instead of expecting people to conform to fixed search models.
In India, a country with a highly educated and computer-literate population, it is another step in bringing potent AI tools within reach in a natural, truly useful way in everyday life.
