GoPro has introduced its latest action camera, the Hero 13 Black, alongside a smaller variant, simply named the Hero. The Hero 13 Black, priced at $399, brings several new features and enhancements that continue GoPro’s tradition of delivering cutting-edge action cameras. The smaller Hero, which will retail for $199, offers a more compact alternative for those seeking portability without compromising on essential features. Both cameras are now available for preorder, with the Hero 13 Black releasing on September 10th, followed by the Hero on September 22nd.

Upgrades in the Hero 13 Black

The GoPro Hero 13 Black comes packed with a variety of new features designed to appeal to both casual users and professionals. Among the standout additions is magnetic mounting and charging, which simplifies the process of attaching and powering the camera. This feature not only enhances usability but also reduces the need for additional accessories, making it easier to capture moments on the go.

The Hero 13 Black also introduces three new lenses, catering to diverse filming needs. Accompanying these lenses is a redesigned battery, boasting a 10 percent higher capacity than its predecessor. This upgrade translates into longer shooting sessions without the constant worry of running out of power. Despite these new features, the Hero 13 Black retains the same 8:7 sensor as the previous model, the Hero 12 Black, indicating GoPro’s confidence in the sensor’s performance.

For content creators, the Hero 13 Black offers advanced recording options, including in-camera noise reduction, which promises clearer audio in challenging environments. The camera also supports HLG HDR video and 10-bit video in G-Log, allowing for greater flexibility in post-production. Another exciting addition is the new burst slo-mo mode, capable of recording at various frame rates and resolutions, including 720p video at up to 400 frames per second, 900p at 360fps, and 5.3K at 120fps. This feature is perfect for capturing high-intensity moments with exceptional clarity.

To complement these video capabilities, the Hero 13 Black has been upgraded to Wi-Fi 6, replacing the older Wi-Fi 5 protocol. This enhancement enables content transfer speeds that are up to 40% faster, a significant time-saver for users who need to quickly upload or transfer large video files.

#### New Lenses for Enhanced Versatility

To further expand the capabilities of the Hero 13 Black, GoPro is releasing a new set of HB-Series lenses. These lenses are designed to offer users more creative control and versatility in their footage. The Ultra Wide Lens Mod, priced at $99.99, provides a 177-degree field of view with a 1:1 aspect ratio. This lens is ideal for capturing expansive scenes, making it perfect for activities like surfing, skiing, or mountain biking.

For those who love to get up close and personal, the new Macro Lens Mod, priced at $129.99, is an excellent choice. It allows users to capture detailed close-ups, though it is limited by a minimum focusing distance of 4.3 inches. This lens is particularly useful for nature enthusiasts or anyone looking to highlight fine details in their shots.

Lastly, the Anamorphic Lens Mod, which will also retail for $129.99, is set to be released next year. This lens offers a 21:9 aspect ratio, bringing a cinematic feel to your videos. Additionally, it produces movie-style lens flares, adding a professional touch to your footage. The Ultra Wide and Macro Lens Mods will be available on September 10th, coinciding with the release of the Hero 13 Black.

Introducing the Smaller GoPro Hero

For users who prioritize size and weight, the new GoPro Hero offers a more compact alternative. This miniature action camera is 35 percent smaller and 46 percent lighter than the Hero 13 Black, weighing just 86 grams. Despite its diminutive size, the Hero is still capable of impressive feats, making it an attractive option for those who need a portable yet powerful device.

The Hero’s built-in battery can last up to 155 minutes when recording 1080p video at 30fps, offering substantial battery life for extended shooting sessions. In terms of video quality, it can capture 4K video at 30fps, ensuring sharp and vibrant footage. Additionally, it supports 2.7K slow-motion captures at 60fps, providing a good balance between resolution and frame rate for creative slow-motion shots.

GoPro’s latest offerings, the Hero 13 Black and the smaller Hero, cater to different segments of the market while sharing a common goal: to deliver high-quality, versatile action cameras. The Hero 13 Black’s array of new features, including magnetic mounting, upgraded lenses, and enhanced video capabilities, makes it a compelling choice for both enthusiasts and professionals. Meanwhile, the compact Hero offers a lightweight, portable option without sacrificing essential features. Both cameras continue GoPro’s legacy of innovation, ensuring that users have the tools they need to capture their adventures with unparalleled clarity and convenience.
