The ministries of Agriculture and Earth science have launched ‘Meghdoot,’ which is a mobile app to provide the location, livestock-specific weather, and crop based on the agro advisors to farmers in the local languages.
The step has been taken in order to accelerate the Digital India initiative and make the technology of farmers friendly.
It has been developed by the Indian Institute of Tropical Meteorology and Indian Meteorological Department and Indian council of Agriculture Research, the app was revealed by the minister of Earth Science and Technology Harsh Vardhan at a launch.
The app ‘Meghdoot’ will offer forecast to farmers relating to rainfall, temperature, humidity and wind speed and direction, which play a vital role in agricultural operations and how to take care of the livestock and crops.
The app has also been integrated with Facebook and WhatsApp as well to help the farmers share information among themselves. It will also be integrated with the help of YouTube in the future.
