Good news for GTA fans! There is still news on the upcoming Grand Theft Auto VI which is expected to be released in the second half of the coming year. However, if you are a PC gamer, you might need to get yourself a tissue because there is a part that will bring a bit of pain.
Recently, Take-Two Interactive, the company that owns Rockstar Games, conducted an investors’ call, and they said some things. They clarified that production on GTA VI is smoothly ongoing and yes the game will be released for PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series S/X next year. But here’s the kicker: Nothing was said about a PC version. That’s right, folks—PC players are being left out in the cold, at least for now.
Now, before we do go any further and discuss the destiny of the PC version, let’s clear up a little confusion. A few people were concerned that the SAG-AFTRA strike could disrupt the proceedings and postpone the game. Fortunately, this is not true. Rockstar Games claims that everything is going as planned and that the strike does not affect the production.
But back to the PC version, Why are PC players always the ones getting the end part of the deal? Well, this isn’t the first time Rockstar has played this game to a certain extent. Do you still recall the time when GTA V was launched? The PC version did not come out until a whole year after the console versions. The same thing happened with Red Dead Redemption 2. Speaking of which, let’s not even discuss the first Red Dead Redemption which never saw the light of day on the gaming platform. The problem here is Rockstar is doing what it has always done, making PC gamers wait and wait and wait.
However, this news was not pleasing to fans. A rather frustrated Redditor opined, ‘It’s so sad that every game on this list other than GTA VI is launching with a PC release. ’ Another added, ‘For the longest time it’s been a console release with a PC release ~1 year later. I don’t see why they’d change it now. ’ It is the same feeling but with an added frustration.
However, some people may consider this as a deliberate attempt by Rockstar to get as much money as possible from gamers forcing them to purchase the game twice, once for the console and again for the PC. And while that might sound like a conspiracy theory worth researching, the truth is most likely a little less glamorous. PC ports are just longer in the making. It’s not about increasing the cash flow (although I am sure they do not mind), it’s about making sure the game doesn’t turn out to be a buggy mess. Just think back to the mess that was Grand Theft Auto: The Trilogy – The Definitive Edition. No one wants a repeat of that mess.
Well, what does all of this mean for PC gamers? Well, buckle up, because it looks like you’ll have to sit tight for a while. There absolutely will be a PC release of GTA VI, but not until Rockstar feels it is fully optimized and ready. And if history is any guide, that could be at least a year after the console release.
For now, perhaps refresh your console memory or, if you’re like me, continue replaying GTA V on your PC and dream of what could be. Well, they say good things come to those who wait.
