Apple’s September Event: What Products Might Be Discontinued?

As Apple gears up for its annual September iPhone event, the tech world is buzzing with anticipation. While new product releases are always the highlight, Apple also uses this event to phase out older models to make room for the latest technology. This year, several existing Apple products are expected to be discontinued.

Possible Discontinuation of the iPhone 15 Pro Series

One of the most significant shifts could involve the discontinuation of the iPhone 15 Pro and iPhone 15 Pro Max. These models, which debuted only a year ago, were the first iPhones to feature a titanium frame, marking a significant design evolution. However, they may also be the last in the Pro series to feature the 6.1-inch and 6.7-inch screen sizes. Speculation suggests that the forthcoming iPhone 16 Pro models will boast larger displays, signaling the end of this particular design phase. If these rumors hold true, Apple may retire the iPhone 15 Pro series to pave the way for the next generation.

The iPhone 14 Plus: A Likely Exit

The iPhone 14 Plus, which was introduced as a more affordable option within the larger iPhone category, might also be on the chopping block. With its 6.7-inch display and robust battery life, the iPhone 14 Plus offered a budget-friendly alternative to the Pro Max models. Despite its appeal, Apple may decide to discontinue this model to streamline its product lineup, especially if newer, more advanced models are introduced.

Uncertain Fate of the iPhone 13

The future of the iPhone 13 is also in question. Launched in 2021, the iPhone 13 brought several enhancements, including better battery life, an upgraded camera system, and a reduced notch size. Even though it has become more affordable over time, it remains the oldest iPhone still available on Apple’s website. Apple has a history of discontinuing older models when introducing new ones, making it likely that the iPhone 13 will be phased out after this year’s event.

Apple Watch Series 9, Ultra 2, and SE 2: Phasing Out for New Models?

The September event could also mark the end for several Apple Watch models. Rumors suggest that Apple is preparing to introduce the Apple Watch Series 10, which is expected to feature larger, more efficient displays, a sleeker design, and possibly a new chipset. Additionally, there are speculations about refreshed versions of the Ultra 3 and SE 3. If these new models are released, it is likely that Apple will discontinue the current Series 9, Ultra 2, and SE 2 models to make room for the upgraded versions.

AirPods 2 and 3: Nearing the End

Apple’s AirPods line might also undergo some changes. The company has continued to sell the AirPods 2, which were introduced in 2019, alongside the more feature-rich AirPods 3, released in 2021. However, with the anticipated release of two new trims of AirPods 4, it is expected that Apple will discontinue both the AirPods 2 and 3 models. This move would align with Apple’s strategy of simplifying its product lineup to encourage the adoption of newer, more advanced technology.

The iPad Mini: Likely to Be Replaced

The current iPad mini could also be discontinued soon. Apple is expected to unveil a new version of the iPad mini, which may feature support for Apple Intelligence, increased storage capacity, and compatibility with the Apple Pencil Pro. Given Apple’s recent tendency to retire older models when launching new ones, the existing iPad mini might be phased out shortly after the introduction of its successor.

Apple’s September event is not just about the excitement of new product launches; it’s also a time when the company typically retires older models to make way for the latest innovations. The iPhone 15 Pro series, iPhone 14 Plus, iPhone 13, certain Apple Watch models, and the current iPad mini all seem likely candidates for discontinuation. These potential changes are in line with Apple’s broader product lifecycle strategy, reflecting its ongoing commitment to innovation and encouraging customers to embrace the latest technology. As Apple introduces its new lineup, consumers should prepare for these older models to exit the stage.
