AI Lobbyists associated with artificial intelligence have funded a series of luxury trips for congressional staffers, sparking concerns over the increasing role of the tech industry in Congress.

The trips were arranged by the Innovative Future Collective (IFC), a non-profit that advocates for artificial intelligence policy discussions. The travel data, which was disclosed through public gifts filed by the House of Representatives and the Senate, revealed that the trips happened over the course of the last year and included visits to major artificial intelligence centers in the United States and other countries.

The disclosed data indicated that congressional staffers visited cities such as San Francisco, London, New York City, and Los Angeles. During these visits, staffers toured tech companies and defense contractors that are major contributors to artificial intelligence development.

The tour also included visits to major tech companies such as Meta and Amazon. The congressional staffers also visited defense technology companies that focus on artificial intelligence development, including Palantir Technologies and Anduril Industries, which focus on artificial intelligence development for military applications.

Inside the Lobbyist-Backed AI Study Tours for Lawmakers

According to travel records, these trips included high-end accommodations. For instance, in London, staff stayed at the five-star hotel London Marriott Hotel Grosvenor Square. Even though the travel records do not include all the activities undertaken during the trip, they indicate that the trips were paid for by IFC.

As per IFC, the purpose of these trips was educational. The group explains that the purpose of these trips was for lawmakers and their staff to be exposed to artificial intelligence systems. According to the group, lawmakers get the opportunity to visit facilities that include labs and offices where these systems are being built. This helps them get a chance to watch demonstrations by engineers or executives working on these systems.

The nonprofit group has come under scrutiny due to the group behind these trips. According to reports, the group behind these trips was founded in December 2024 by a fundraising firm known as Fulkerson Kennedy & Company. This firm has previously worked on raising money for prominent Senate Democrats, including Senator Chuck Schumer.

The organization’s advisory committee also has strong industry ties. According to the IFC website, there are 15 people on the advisory committee. Twelve of those individuals are corporate lobbyists. There are at least six individuals on the committee who work for companies that have significant investments in artificial intelligence.

Some of the individuals on the committee work for companies like OpenAI or Andreessen Horowitz, which are both artificial intelligence companies. There is also a representative from Microsoft on the committee. He is the general manager for public policy for the United States.

Tech Giants, Super PACs, and the Quiet Lobbying for AI Deregulation

The group does not share much information about the discussions that happen during the trips. According to publicly available information, there are details about the cost of the trips and the location. There is not much information about the issues that are discussed during the trip.

The timing of the trip also fits into a larger political strategy that is being implemented by some companies in the tech industry. There are several artificial intelligence companies that are planning on spending a significant amount of money during the 2026 election season. They are hoping to elect officials who will allow for less regulation on artificial intelligence.

Some of these individuals also work on behalf of companies that assist in political advertisements funded by the super PAC group Leading the Future. This group has focused on opposing politicians who support stricter regulations on AI safety.

One of these politicians is Alex Bores, a Democrat who supports the RAISE Act. This act has the intention of creating a better level of oversight for larger artificial intelligence systems. It also requires companies to address safety concerns before releasing powerful systems.

The group that advises IFC is not limited to the artificial intelligence industry. This group also includes executives from fintech or cryptocurrency companies like Coinbase or Stripe. Both companies have a high interest in technology development.

The trips indicate that the artificial intelligence industry has quickly become a part of Washington. This occurs as Congress seeks regulations for powerful technology.

For now, the travel disclosures offer a rare glimpse into how that effort unfolds behind the scenes through tours, meetings, and direct access to the people who help write the rules governing artificial intelligence.
