How to Beat Dynamax Latios in Pokemon GO

Facing a towering Dynamax Latios can feel like staring down a fierce, unstoppable force. That said, with the right strategy, thoughtful team composition, and a few well-timed moves, you can absolutely get the upper hand. Let’s walk through a human-style, SEO-friendly guide that explains the best ways to take down this impressive raid boss—with relaxed phrasing, varied sentence lengths, and a down-to-earth tone you’d expect from a friendly trainer.

Dynamax Latios is a Tier 5 Dragon/Psychic-type raid. It boasts massive HP and hits seriously hard during its Dynamax phase. It’s particularly vulnerable to Bug, Dark, Dragon, Ice, Ghost, and Fairy-type moves, so these are your go-to categories for maximum effectiveness.

Focus on three crucial roles in your party of up to 4 trainers:

  • One defender (tank) to absorb damage and build energy.

  • Two attackers (DPS) to unleash big damage when Dynamax mode hits.

  • One healer or support (optional—but helpful) to keep things alive.

Choose Smart Counters

Attackers (High Damage Output)

Top picks include Gigantamax Gengar, Dynamax Latios, Dynamax Gengar, Single Strike Urshifu, and Hatterene. In particular, Gigantamax Gengar delivers some of the highest Max Move damage against Latios, making it a standout choice.

Defenders (Tanks with 0.5-second Fast Moves)

To win, defend smartly with Pokémon like Metagross (Fury Cutter), Crowned Sword Zacian, Crowned Shield Zamazenta, Urshifu (Single Strike), and Corviknight. These resist Latios’s attacks well and help charge the Max Meter efficiently.

Healers & Support

Healers aren’t always mandatory, but Blissey, Wailord, Gigantamax Lapras, and Snorlax are great if you can include one. They help sustain your group, especially during the tough Max phases.

Raid Strategy Step-by-Step

  1. Start with your defender in the lead. Their 0.5-second fast move gets energy on the board fast.

  2. Build the Max Meter quickly. Hold off on Charged Moves—they only give minimal energy and eat time. Fast Moves win this race.

  3. When the Meter fills, Dynamax: switch to your top attacker in that phase.

  4. After Max expires, switch back to your tank or healer to regroup.

  5. Use Max Guard wisely—stack up shield protection, then dodge when the boss targets your shielded Pokémon. It redirects heavy hits and shields your team.

  6. If you have support, use Max Spirit to heal your team mid-battle.

Extra Tips That Matter

  • Dodge with precision. When Latios readies a powerful move, watch for the tell and swipe out of the way.

  • Coordinate with your team. Ensure at least one teammate covers shields and someone handles Max Spirit or healing if needed.

  • Attack wisely. Switch to your DPS only during unfolding Dynamax phases—otherwise, tank up.

  • Track Latios’s moves. It may deploy wide hits or focused attacks. Shield and dodge accordingly.

  • Hit Latios where it’s weakest. Dragon, Ice, Ghost, Dark, Bug, and Fairy moves pack the punch.

Example Team Layout

Trainer 1 – Defender

  • Pokémon: Metagross with Fury Cutter

  • Role: Lead, soak damage, charge the Max Meter with fast moves.

Trainer 2 & 3 – Attackers

  • Pokémon: Gigantamax Gengar or Dynamax Latios, Gengar, Ursifu, or Hatterene

  • Role: Switch in during Dynamax, unleash Max Moves like G-Max Terror or Max Wyrmwind.

Trainer 4 – Healer / Support

  • Pokémon: Blissey, Gigantamax Lapras, or Snorlax

  • Role: Apply Max Spirit, recover health, maybe drop Max Guard or stay shielded.

Why This Works

  • Your defender builds buffer and energy fast with 0.5-second fast moves.

  • Attackers hit Latios hard when it’s best, making the most of Dynamax’s limited time window.

  • A healer or support keeps the team in fighting shape through shields and recovery.

  • Dodging and shields maximize survivability, letting your DPS shine longer—and end the battle quicker.
