Can we block all Unknown callers on Android?

It’s not an unknown inquisition, and a rather needed one. Yes, you generally can block “Unknown” or “Private” numbers right within your Android Phone app’s settings and stop those calls from reaching you. All you have to do is look for options like “Blocked numbers” or “Block unknown numbers” and toggle the setting on. While this largely filters out contacts, keep in mind that this usually blocks callers whose number is hidden, not necessarily every number that isn’t saved in your contacts.

While that ideally should be the case, depending on the settings, sometimes it doesn’t happen. Some Android phones or the Google Phone app also have smart features like “Caller ID and spam protection” that help filter out suspected spam and scam calls, even if the number isn’t hidden. If not in the phone itself, there are ways you can still access those features. We shall see so in the next section.

Ways to block unknown callers on Android

If you want to block the unknown callers on Android, then these are the ways that will come in handy.

Through the Settings in Your Phone

This is your primary solution and something which is easier than others. For this, just open your phone’s dialer, tap the three-dot menu for Settings, find Blocked numbers or Call Blocking, and then just toggle on the option to “Block calls from unknown numbers.” This will make sure that you don’t receive calls from numbers that are usually not saved on your device.

Enable Spam Protection

Many Android phones, especially those using the Google Phone app, have a feature like “Caller ID and spam protection.” This protects the users against any kind of fraud or spamming that takes place. If you choose this, make sure this is turned on in your phone’s call settings to pick out spam calls.

Download a Third-Party App

Third-party apps are very helpful in situations as such. Truecaller is a living example of it that chooses to filter out and block such calls. These apps use large databases to identify and block not only private numbers but also known spam and telemarketers by their specific numbers.

“Do Not Disturb” (DND) Filter

Put your phone on the DND mode to allow calls only from your contacts. While it’s not a block, it effectively silences all other callers which also includes unknown callers, thus, solving your problem.

All these are tried and tested effective ways, out of which you can pick whatever you like. Depending on what works for you, anyone can be good enough.
