Frostbite in Arc Raiders is a survival mechanic triggered by outdoor exposure on Cold Snap map variants. When your Raider stands in snowfall without overhead cover, a frostbite meter slowly builds up. After a short period, your character begins to take continuous health damage until you find shelter or use other survival methods. Frostbite makes combat and movement more difficult, so managing it properly is essential for surviving raids.

Unlike damage from enemies, frostbite damage ignores armor and steadily drains your health as long as you remain exposed. The effect can also narrow your field of vision and make navigation harder in snowy areas. Because of this, your approach to Cold Snap missions must balance fighting enemies, exploring the map, and staying alive in harsh weather.

Understanding Shelter and Frostbite Mechanics

The first rule of frostbite survival is simple: shelter stops the damage. The moment you step inside a roofed structure or under cover that blocks snowfall, frostbite damage stops immediately. Even brief shelter can reset the frostbite buildup timer, giving you a fresh window before exposure begins again.

Not all cover works the same way. Snowfall must be blocked from above to truly protect you. Walls alone are not enough unless they include a roof or overhead structure. Open garages, broken buildings with intact ceilings, and field depots are all useful as temporary safe zones.

Planning your movement from shelter to shelter is a core part of Cold Snap gameplay. Instead of sprinting across wide open areas, experienced Raiders move along routes that keep them under cover as much as possible. This reduces health loss and helps conserve valuable healing supplies.

Basic Steps to Cure Frostbite

Here are the primary steps you should follow when dealing with frostbite during a raid:

1. Find Immediate Shelter
As soon as you notice snow building up on your screen or your Raider starting to shiver, look for shelter. Even a few seconds under a roof pauses frostbite damage and resets the outdoor timer. This gives you time to heal, plan your next move, or safely rotate to another covered area.

2. Use Healing Items Efficiently
If you are caught far from cover, healing items become essential. Carry enough bandages, herbal bandages, Vita Shots, Vita Spray, and other medical supplies. These items help restore health while you push toward safety. During Cold Snap missions, you should always carry more healing items than usual, since frostbite causes steady chip damage.

3. Equip Health Regeneration Augments
Some augments provide passive health regeneration when you are not actively taking damage. These are extremely useful after frostbite exposure. Once you reach shelter, these augments can slowly restore health without forcing you to use all of your consumables, helping you stay prepared for upcoming fights.

Advanced Techniques for Frostbite Survival

Once you understand the basics, there are advanced techniques that can save your life in extreme situations.

Fire Trick for Emergency Reset
In desperate moments, frostbite can be removed by setting your Raider on fire. While it sounds dangerous, fire damage overrides the frostbite effect and resets the outdoor exposure timer. This can be done by stepping into existing flames from enemies or by using fire-based throwables. After the fire ends, you must quickly heal to recover lost health.

This method also damages your shield or health, so it should only be used when no shelter is nearby and frostbite is about to kill you. It is a last-resort tactic, not a standard strategy.

Teammate Support with Flamethrowers
When playing in a squad, a teammate equipped with a flamethrower can provide temporary heat. Staying close to an ally using these weapons can help manage frostbite while moving between shelters. This tactic is situational and risky during combat, but it can be useful while retreating or repositioning across open ground.
