Warhammer 40,000: Space Marine 2 is an action-packed, third-person shooter set in the grimdark universe of Warhammer 40K. Developed by Saber Interactive, the game lets players step into the heavy armor of a Space Marine, one of the most formidable warriors in the galaxy. As Captain Titus of the Ultramarines, players fight against relentless hordes of Tyranids, using both brutal melee combat and ranged firepower. In addition to the rich story and high-octane gameplay, one of the most exciting features is the armor customization system, which lets players personalize their Space Marines. However, when it comes to deleting custom armor sets, the game presents some limitations.

Armor Customization in Space Marine 2

Customization plays a significant role in Space Marine 2, allowing players to tailor their Space Marine’s appearance to their personal tastes. Whether you’re drawn to classic Ultramarine blue or prefer a more menacing, war-torn look, the customization options are extensive. Players can modify several aspects of their armor, including helmets, chest plates, shoulder pads, and colors, creating a unique visual identity for their character.

The customization process is unlocked after completing the prologue and the Skyfire campaign mission, which gives access to the Armouring Hall aboard the Battle Barge. This hall acts as the hub where you can tweak your Space Marine’s look before diving into battle. From here, players can explore different game modes such as Operations and Eternal War, each of which offers opportunities for customization.

One of the standout features of the game’s customization system is its flexibility. You are provided with four custom armor slots, allowing for multiple designs that you can switch between depending on your mood or gameplay needs. These armor sets can be altered and edited, mixing and matching different parts to achieve the perfect aesthetic for your Space Marine.

How to Create and Edit Custom Armor Sets

To create or edit a custom armor set, players simply navigate to the “Edit Armor” option in the Armouring Hall. This will open a menu where you can modify different armor pieces, as well as apply specific color schemes. Fans of the Warhammer 40K universe will appreciate the option to choose premade chapter colors based on the lore, or they can create entirely original color combinations using the custom slots available.

Furthermore, the Astartes Heraldry menu offers even more options for those who want detailed control over their armor’s appearance. You can assign rules for specific parts of the armor, applying unique colors and patterns to helmets, chest pieces, and other components. This level of customization allows players to bring their dream Space Marine to life.

The Limitations: No Option to Delete Custom Armor Sets

While the customization options in Space Marine 2 are vast, one major limitation is the inability to delete custom armor sets. Once you’ve filled one of the four available custom armor slots, it remains permanently occupied. There is no option to clear a slot and start over from scratch. While this may not be an issue for some players who enjoy constant tweaks and modifications, others might find this restrictive.

Players who want to delete a custom armor set will be disappointed to learn that the game does not provide a method for doing so. The custom slot can be modified endlessly, meaning you can change the appearance of the armor at any time, but it will never be truly “reset” to an empty slot. This limitation extends to chapter colors as well, meaning that once a custom color pattern is applied, it cannot be entirely erased, only altered.

For players who want a completely fresh start with their armor customizations, the only solution is to begin a new game. This would reset all customization slots to their default state, but it comes at the cost of erasing all gameplay progress. It’s a harsh trade-off that leaves some players feeling stuck with their early design choices.

Maximizing Customization Without Deleting Armor Sets

Despite this limitation, players can still make the most of the customization options by frequently editing their armor sets. The key is to treat the four custom slots as evolving works of art. You can continuously update your designs to suit your playstyle or preferences. If you’re unhappy with a particular armor set, change the components and colors to create a fresh look, rather than wishing for a blank slate. This allows you to keep your custom slots dynamic and adaptable, even if they can’t be deleted.

Another strategy is to experiment with the premade chapter colors available in the Astartes Heraldry section. These predefined patterns are based on classic Warhammer 40K lore and can serve as inspiration for your own custom designs. Even though you can’t delete a custom armor set, mixing up the colors and patterns can give your Space Marine a new identity without needing a reset.
