Minecraft is an incredibly versatile game that offers players a wide range of customization options. One of the most exciting features introduced in the upcoming Minecraft 1.20 update is the ability to dye and customize your armor in thousands of unique ways. This article will guide you through the process of customizing your armor in Minecraft.

Armor customization in Minecraft allows you to change the appearance, color, and design of your armor, without affecting its abilities. There are two primary methods for customizing your armor:

  1. Coloring: This method involves dyeing your armor in one of the 16 available colors in Minecraft. It is exclusively applicable to leather armor.

  2. Trimming: With armor trimming, you can add various patterns on top of your base armor. This method works for all types of armor, including colored leather armor.

Before diving into customization, it’s essential to apply the best armor enchantments to enhance its abilities. These enchantments may not alter the appearance significantly, but they offer game-changing supernatural abilities.

Armor Trims are an exciting addition to Minecraft 1.20. They are Smithing templates that allow you to add patterns to your armor. There are 16 unique Armor Trims, each compatible with ten distinct trim colors. This means you can create countless unique combinations of armor.

To start customizing your armor, you’ll need to find and collect Armor Trims in the game. These templates spawn in chests found in various structures across the Minecraft world, including the overworld, Nether, and End dimensions. For a comprehensive list of Armor Trim locations, refer to our detailed guide.

To customize your armor, you’ll require the following items:

  1. Smithing Table
  2. Four Armor Trims (one for each piece of armor)
  3. Helmet, chest plate, leggings, and boots
  4. Trim Color Materials

Trim color materials include iron, copper, gold, lapis lazuli, emerald, diamond, Netherite, Redstone, amethyst, quartz, or the same material as the armor itself.

Follow these steps to customize your armor using Armor Trims:

  1. Place a Smithing Table on a surface and interact with it.
  2. Put the Armor Trim Smithing Template in the leftmost cell of the Smithing Table’s interface.
  3. Insert a piece of armor in the slot to the right of the template.
  4. Finally, place the desired color material in the rightmost cell of the Smithing Table interface.

If you wish to dye and customize leather armor, the process is slightly different. Here’s what you’ll need:

  1. Pieces of Leather Armor (pants, tunic, cap, and boots)
  2. Dye (one for each piece of armor)
  3. Crafting Table (Java Edition only)
  4. Cauldron (Bedrock Edition only)
  5. Bucket with Water (Bedrock Edition only)

For Java Edition, follow these steps:

  1. Place a crafting table on a solid surface and interact with it.
  2. Put one piece of leather armor in any slot within the crafting area. Remember, you can only dye one piece at a time.
  3. Finally, insert the dye of your choice into any other slot. You can even combine two dyes to create a new color.

For Bedrock Edition, the process is as follows:

  1. Place a cauldron on a solid surface.
  2. Empty a bucket of water into the cauldron.
  3. Add the desired dye to the cauldron’s water. The water color will change accordingly. You can mix multiple dyes to create new colors.
  4. Use the piece of leather armor on the cauldron to absorb the color. Although this process takes longer, you can customize multiple pieces of leather armor with one piece of dye.

While customizing your armor in Minecraft is exciting, you can further enhance your gameplay experience by exploring the best Minecraft skins to change your appearance or trying out the finest Minecraft texture packs for unique armor designs. Embrace the freedom to express your creativity and make your armor truly your own in the vast and immersive world of Minecraft.
