Entering the Temple of Bhaal in Baldur’s Gate 3 is one of the most intense and story heavy moments in the game. This hidden location is deeply tied to the Dark Urge storyline and the final chapters of Act Three. Many players struggle to find the correct path or miss key requirements that block entry. This guide explains every step clearly, without spoilers where possible, so you can reach the temple with confidence and purpose.

The Temple of Bhaal is not a random dungeon. It is a sacred place tied to murder, sacrifice, and choice. Your decisions here can permanently affect your character, companions, and ending. The game does not clearly mark this location, which makes preparation essential. You must progress far enough in Act Three and complete specific objectives before the path opens.
This temple is especially important if you are playing as the Dark Urge, but non Dark Urge characters can also enter it by following the correct route.
Reaching The Murder Tribunal
Before you can even think about the temple, you must locate the Murder Tribunal. This secret court acts as the gatekeeper to Bhaal’s domain. To begin this process, explore the Lower City of Baldur’s Gate and investigate a series of ritual murders.
Your main objectives include:
- Following clues related to ritual killings
- Tracking targets marked by the cult
- Reaching Candulhallow’s Tombstones
- Entering the hidden tribunal chamber
Once inside the tribunal, you will face powerful figures tied to Bhaal’s worship. Dialogue choices matter here more than combat alone.
Dealing With The Tribunal’s Judgment
Inside the Murder Tribunal, you will be judged. The outcome depends on your character, choices, and background. Dark Urge characters may receive special dialogue and easier access, while others must prove themselves through combat or persuasion.
You generally have two paths forward:
- Accept Bhaal’s influence and authority
- Defy the tribunal and fight your way through
Both paths can lead to the temple, but accepting the ritual path is faster and unlocks unique story moments. Refusing leads to a difficult fight but still allows progression if you survive.
Obtaining The Amulet Of Bhaal
To open the Temple of Bhaal, you must possess the Amulet of Bhaal. This item is non optional. Without it, the temple entrance will remain sealed no matter what you try.
You can obtain the amulet by:
- Completing the Murder Tribunal ritual
- Defeating the tribunal leaders and looting it
- Claiming it as part of the Dark Urge storyline
Once equipped or carried, the amulet will react to the temple entrance automatically.
Finding The Temple Entrance
The Temple of Bhaal is located beneath the city. Head toward the Undercity Ruins, which can be accessed through specific sewer entrances in the Lower City. Explore carefully, as this area is filled with traps, enemies, and environmental hazards.
Look for a massive stone door surrounded by skull imagery and blood stained architecture. When you approach while carrying the amulet, a cutscene will trigger. The door will open, granting you access to the temple interior.
If nothing happens, double check that the amulet is in your inventory and not stored in camp.
