Charcadet is one of the most interesting Fire-type Pokémon introduced in the Paldea region. At first glance, it looks small and fragile, but its evolution paths turn it into a powerful and stylish fighter. What makes Charcadet special is that it does not evolve in just one way. Instead, it can evolve into two completely different Pokémon depending on your game version and the item you use. Understanding how this works will help you choose the evolution that best fits your team and playstyle.

Unlike many Pokémon that evolve by leveling up or using common stones, Charcadet requires special armor items. These items are tied to version-exclusive Pokémon and materials found in Paldea. Once you collect the correct item, you can evolve Charcadet instantly. There is no minimum level requirement, so timing the evolution is fully up to you.
Charcadet can evolve into:
- Armarouge, a Fire and Psychic type
- Ceruledge, a Fire and Ghost type
Each evolution has its own strengths, weaknesses, and battle identity. Choosing the right one depends on your strategy.
How to Evolve Charcadet into Armarouge
Armarouge is exclusive to Pokémon Scarlet. It focuses on strong special attacks and has a bulky, cannon-like design. To evolve Charcadet into Armarouge, you need an item called Auspicious Armor.
Steps to evolve into Armarouge:
- Catch or obtain a Charcadet
- Defeat Bronzor in the wild to collect Bronzor Fragments
- Collect ten Bronzor Fragments
- Visit Zapapico in East Province Area Three
- Speak to the NPC who trades Auspicious Armor for fragments
- Use the Auspicious Armor on Charcadet
Once the armor is used, Charcadet will immediately evolve into Armarouge.
Armarouge excels in special offense and works very well with moves like Armor Cannon, Psychic, and Energy Ball. It is ideal for players who enjoy calculated, high-damage battles and strong type coverage.
How to Evolve Charcadet into Ceruledge
Ceruledge is exclusive to Pokémon Violet. It is fast, aggressive, and built for physical combat. This evolution requires an item called Malicious Armor.
Steps to evolve into Ceruledge:
- Catch or obtain a Charcadet
- Defeat Sinistea in the wild to collect Sinistea Chips
- Collect ten Sinistea Chips
- Travel to Zapapico in East Province Area Three
- Talk to the NPC who trades Malicious Armor for chips
- Use the Malicious Armor on Charcadet
Using the armor will trigger an instant evolution into Ceruledge.
Ceruledge shines as a fast physical attacker. Moves like Bitter Blade, Shadow Sneak, and Swords Dance allow it to deal heavy damage while recovering health. This makes it a strong choice for aggressive players who prefer speed and pressure.
Choosing the Right Evolution for Your Team
Both evolutions are strong, but they fill very different roles. Before evolving Charcadet, consider what your team needs most.
Armarouge is better if you want:
- High special attack damage
- Strong Psychic-type coverage
- A bulkier Pokémon that can take hits
- Slower, tactical battles
Ceruledge is better if you want:
- High physical attack and speed
- Ghost-type coverage
- Lifesteal through signature moves
- Fast-paced and aggressive fights
There is no wrong choice. Both evolutions are viable in story mode, raids, and competitive play with proper support.
Can You Get Both Evolutions
If you want both Armarouge and Ceruledge, you can do so through trading. Players from the opposite version can trade the armor items or the evolved Pokémon themselves. This allows you to complete your collection without restarting the game.
Another option is catching multiple Charcadet and evolving each one differently through trades. This is useful if you enjoy experimenting with different battle styles.
