Wondering what a ‘Tag’ is on Discord and how does it work? Follow the guide to learn how you can get a tag on the platform in a few steps and how does it work. Most importantly, we will see what exactly a tag is. So, let us begin!
What’s a ‘Tag’ on Discord?
Firstly, one has to remember that on Discord, “tag” can mean a couple of things, but most commonly now, it’s about Server Tags. It is more like a little badge on your profile that makes it evident that you are a part of a certain community. It’s usually a short, easy, 4-character word or acronym that a server owner unlocks using Boosts. You can then display it next to your name, along with a cool icon and color as per your preference because it’s your account after all. Before, “tag” also referred to the four numbers after your username. For Example, #5690. But that doesn’t happen anymore as Discord has changed its policies regarding it. And of course, “tagging” someone in a message just means using @username to get their attention to a message or an issue or just remembering them!
Steps to get a tag on Discord
Now that you have understood how a tag works on Discord, let us discuss the steps that can help you get it!
For Server Admins
Boost Your Server- You’ll need to use 3 Server Boosts specifically to unlock the “Server Tags” as a perk on the platform. This is separate from your server’s boost level! Look for the “Server Boosts” tab in your server settings.
Customize It– Once unlocked, you can set a 4-character tag, an icon, and a color for your community just the way you want it. This is another thing that makes the servers unique.
For Regular Server Members
Join a Tagged Server- The easiest way is to join a Discord server that already has a Server Tag enabled. Many communities are now setting these up to entice more and more people to be a part of them.
Apply to Your Profile- Once you’re in a server with a tag, head to your User Settings, then Profiles. You’ll see a “Server Tag” section where you can pick which tag to display on your profile.
And voila! It will be done.
How to use the ‘@’ tag on Discord?
- For Specific Users– Just type @ followed by their username to notify them that they’re tagged by you.
- For Online Users in a Channel– Use @here to notify everyone who’s currently online and not otherwise in that specific channel to keep the activities going.
- For Everyone in the Server– Use @everyone to notify all members of the server, regardless of their online status. Most people end up having a terrible time being tagged altogether so make sure to use it only when absolutely necessary.
And that was all about tags on Discord. Now that you know, you can use them too!
