Amethyst Shards were added to Minecraft with the Caves & Cliffs update, and they are a stunning and useful resource. They are necessary to construct a variety of things, such as Tinted Glass and the Spyglass. We’ll lead you through the steps of locating and gathering amethyst shards in 2024 in this guide.

KEYPOINTS:
  • While other ways provide two shards, using a pickaxe will yield four shards.
  • When the amethyst buds are ready to be mined, it is important to note the amethyst geode on the map and come back often.
  • Additionally, Ancient City chests have a 23.2% chance of containing Amethyst Shards.

Locating a Geode of Amethyst

Amethyst Geodes are naturally occurring subsurface structures that are the only source of Amethyst Shards. Here’s where to find one:

  • Underground Exploration: Amethyst geodes usually generate between Y levels 0 and 70 when explored below ground. Start mining or exploring caverns and ravines to locate one. These geodes can be distinguished from the surrounding stone because they are frequently covered in smooth basalt and calcite.
  • Ocean Exploration: Because geodes are also found underwater, ocean biomes are a practical choice for discovery. Look for large, spherical structures while exploring the ocean floor.

Finding Amethyst Stones

You’ll find many kinds of blocks inside an amethyst geode once you’ve located one:

  • The outermost layer of the geode, known as smooth basalt, envelops the entire formation.
  • Calcite: A white, marble-like rock that is located directly below the layer of basalt.
  • The purple, crystalline blocks inside the geode are called amethyst blocks. Although these blocks can take on various shapes, not all of them will produce shards.

Gathering Crystals of Amethyst

You must concentrate on the Budding Amethyst blocks, which result in Amethyst Clusters, in order to gather Amethyst Shards. This is how you gather them:

  • Amethyst Clusters: Search for clusters that are developing on blocks of budding amethyst. Amethyst Cluster, Medium Amethyst Bud, Large Amethyst Bud, and Small Amethyst Bud are the four growth stages of these clusters. When mined, Amethyst Shards are only dropped by fully developed Amethyst Clusters.
  • Mining Tool: To mine the amethyst cluster, use any kind of pickaxe. Nevertheless, dropping more shards will occur if you use a pickaxe that has been blessed with luck.
  • Shard Yield: Four amethyst shards are usually dropped by each fully formed amethyst cluster. You can get up to 16 shards each cluster using the Fortune III enchantment.

Other Approaches

Although the main technique for obtaining Amethyst Shards is mining Amethyst Clusters, you may also try the following other ways:

  • Treasure Chests: From time to time, treasure chests in Bastion Remnants and Shipwrecks contain Amethyst Shards. However, in contrast to mining, this approach is less trustworthy.
  • Trading: Occasionally, a vagrant trader may come across you, offering Amethyst Shards in return for Emeralds. Although it is uncommon, this can be a practical choice if you have extra emeralds.

Using Amethyst Shards for Crafting

You can utilise amethyst shards to create a number of helpful things if you’ve collected enough of them:

  • Spyglass: To make a spyglass that lets you zoom in on far-off things, combine two copper ingots and one amethyst shard.
  • Tinted Glass: Use 4 Amethyst Shards and 1 Glass Block to craft Tinted Glass, a decorative block that can block light while remaining transparent.

Advice and Techniques

  • Silk Touch Caution: When mining amethyst clusters, stay away from using a pickaxe with the Silk Touch enchantment as it will drop the entire cluster rather than individual shards.
  • Establish a Farm: If a geode is discovered, think about establishing a base close by so that you can continuously gather amethyst clusters as they grow on budding amethyst blocks.
  • Amethyst shards are a renewable resource, so go ahead and utilise them for crafting; just be sure to save some for later projects.

In summary

In Minecraft, amethyst shards are an invaluable resource with a variety of decorative and practical use. Finding Amethyst Geodes and cautiously mining Amethyst Clusters will enable you to acquire a collection of these exquisite purple shards quite rapidly. Whether you’re making a Spyglass or incorporating some color to your builds, Amethyst Shards are a must-have in your inventory. Happy mining!
