Reliance Jio, India’s largest telecom network, has announced a major partnership with Google that has caught the attention of millions of internet users in the country. The collaboration brings an exclusive 18-month free subscription to Google AI Pro, powered by Google’s most advanced Gemini 2.5 Pro model. This plan, which normally costs ₹35,100 for the same duration, will now be offered at no cost to eligible Jio customers. The move is part of Jio’s larger “AI for All” programme, which aims to bring artificial intelligence tools to the general public and make India a key player in global digital access.
The offer was officially revealed on October 30, 2025, and it marks a major step for Jio as it continues to merge high-speed 5G connectivity with cutting-edge AI services. The rollout begins with young adults aged between 18 and 25 who are on Jio’s unlimited 5G plans, and it will soon expand to the rest of the user base. The partnership gives subscribers access to premium Gemini features such as deep research capabilities, image and video generation, coding support, and built-in integration with Google’s productivity suite including Gmail, Docs, and Drive. For a company that already provides some of the lowest data rates in the world, Jio’s collaboration with Google could bring AI tools into everyday life for millions of Indians.
The initiative also reflects Google’s strategy of expanding its AI reach in India, one of the fastest-growing internet markets. By tying Gemini’s paid tier with Jio’s 5G infrastructure, both companies aim to promote digital literacy and encourage practical uses of AI among students, professionals, and entrepreneurs. Users will be able to generate complex reports, automate repetitive office tasks, and even produce creative projects such as short videos or infographics—all through their smartphones.
To qualify for the free 18-month subscription, users need to meet a few conditions. The initial rollout covers individuals aged 18 to 25 who have an active Jio unlimited 5G plan priced at ₹349 or higher. Both prepaid and postpaid users are eligible, as long as their plan remains active throughout the 18-month period. Jio customers who fall outside the age bracket will have to wait until early 2026 when the scheme expands to all 505 million Jio mobile users across India. The offer currently excludes JioFiber and enterprise users, meaning only personal mobile subscribers can avail it. Non-Jio users who wish to access the Gemini plan can simply switch networks by purchasing a new Jio SIM or porting their existing number through the MyJio app or a retail store.
The process of activating the free plan is simple and handled entirely through the MyJio app. Once users log in, they can check if their active plan qualifies for the offer. If not, they can recharge with a ₹349 or higher unlimited pack. After confirming eligibility, users will see a banner or card titled “Google Gemini – Powered by Jio” under the Offers section in the app. Tapping on “Claim Now” initiates the registration, which asks for a Gmail ID and basic verification. Once confirmed, activation begins either instantly or within a few days depending on verification speed. After activation, users can open the Gemini app, sign in using the linked Google account, and access all Pro features. For existing paid Gemini Pro subscribers, the app automatically switches to the free Jio-linked plan once their current subscription ends.
Maintaining uninterrupted access to Gemini Pro requires users to keep their Jio plan active. If they downgrade to a non-eligible plan, their Gemini benefits pause until they renew with the qualifying pack. Jio sends reminders through app notifications and messages to help users keep track of their subscription status. For any activation delays or technical issues, Jio’s customer care (199) or in-app support can assist.
What makes this offer special is the range of features included in the Gemini AI Pro tier. Users gain access to the Gemini 2.5 Pro model, which offers an expanded 1-million-token context window—allowing deeper and longer queries that can process complex topics in one go. The Deep Research mode is particularly useful for students, researchers, and professionals working with large documents or datasets. On the creative side, the plan includes unlimited image generation through the Nano Banana engine and limited access to Veo 3.1 Fast for short video creation. Professionals using tools like Google Docs and Gmail can integrate Gemini for writing help, summarisation, coding assistance, and workflow automation.
Subscribers also receive 2 TB of Google One cloud storage, giving them more room to store projects, documents, and media. The plan includes priority customer support for both Jio and Google services, offering quick help for any technical issues. Normally priced at ₹1,950 per month, the plan’s total 18-month value comes to ₹35,100—now free for those who meet the criteria.
The offer comes with some terms and limitations. The 18-month duration begins from the activation date and cannot be transferred to another user. The free access is limited to personal use, and enterprise accounts will receive a separate version through Jio Business, which is being developed in partnership with Google Cloud. For now, the programme is being introduced in phases, starting with younger 5G customers and gradually rolling out to everyone by early 2026.
Jio’s move is being seen as a major step in India’s digital expansion, positioning the company at the intersection of telecom and artificial intelligence. The offer arrives at a time when AI tools are becoming central to both education and employment. Many Indian students and professionals still rely on free or limited AI tools, but the Jio–Google deal opens the door to premium-level access without any extra cost. Similarly, Airtel has entered into an agreement with Perplexity AI to provide AI-powered search and research tools for select users. However, Jio’s partnership with Google stands out because of its scale and value, covering the widest range of users and the longest free duration among all telecom-based AI offers.
Privacy and data handling remain a priority under this partnership. Google’s standard privacy policies apply, and users can opt out or delete their data through the Gemini settings panel at any time. Jio has also clarified that no personal conversations or AI inputs will be shared with the telecom provider. Only essential account verification data is exchanged between Jio and Google during activation.
The move also hints at Jio’s long-term strategy in the AI sector. Alongside consumer offerings, Jio is working with Google Cloud to bring Gemini Enterprise access to Indian businesses and developers. This will include advanced computing infrastructure such as TPUs (Tensor Processing Units) for training and running AI models at scale. For everyday users, the Gemini Pro offer is only the beginning of a broader digital expansion plan that could reshape how Indians interact with AI services.
