In Ghost of Yotei, “gun parts” function as a crafting resource you need to upgrade certain ranged or firearm-style weapons. They become especially important in the mid to late game, when the most powerful upgrades require them. Early in your journey, though, getting gun parts can feel frustrating, because they don’t appear immediately. Below is a clear, step-by-step guide to help you unlock access to gun parts and start collecting them as early as possible.

Gun parts are used in upgrades of weapons such as the Tanegashima matchlock gun or the Tanzutsu pistol, among other ranged / firearm-type gear. Without enough of them, you’ll be stuck unable to improve your firepower even when you have the other required materials like metals or mask parts. Upgrading is vital for taking on tougher enemies and maintaining balance between melee and ranged approaches.

When Gun Parts Become Available

At the start of the game, you cannot find or loot gun parts. They are locked out until you make progress in the main story until the Oshima Coast region becomes accessible. Once you’re able to reach Oshima Coast, gun parts begin to drop from certain enemies and loot containers.

Until that point, focus on acquiring other upgrade materials (metals, mask parts, etc.) so that when gun parts unlock, you can immediately begin using them.

Ways to Collect Gun Parts Early

Once gun parts are unlocked, here are the most reliable methods to farm them:

  • Defeat gunner enemies
Enemies wielding firearms are the most common source. As you explore Oshima Coast and beyond, you’ll encounter soldiers or bandits armed with guns. They have a higher chance to drop gun parts when defeated.
  • Open chests & loot containers in the region
Explore every camp, ruin, or enemy base. Lootable boxes, crates, and supply stashes may include gun parts.
  • Advance main story missions / revenge quests
Some weapons tied to story or side quests require gun parts in their upgrade paths (e.g. upgrading Tanegashima needs sizable amounts of gun parts). Progressing through missions will expose you to more enemies and areas richer in drops.
  • Upgrade and inspect “inspectable” weapons / gear
Sometimes loot or rewards might hide additional components—make sure to inspect new gear you find to see if there are hidden parts you can salvage.

Specific Weapons That Require Gun Parts

Here are some weapons in Ghost of Yotei whose upgrades or unlocks depend on gun parts:

  • Tanegashima: This matchlock rifle requires gun parts for advanced upgrades.
  • Tanzutsu: A pistol / quickfire weapon with upgrade tiers that demand increasing amounts of gun parts.
  • Wolf Blade upgrades: Even melee weapons like the starting katana may require gun parts at the upper levels of upgrades.

Knowing these needs helps you plan which weapons you’ll focus on first so you don’t waste gun parts on upgrades you don’t intend to use.

Tips for Efficient Farming

To maximize your gun parts haul, try the following:

  • Stick to high enemy density zones
Regions that have many enemy camps and patrols will yield more opportunities to loot guns and pick up drops.
  • Mix exploration with story progression
Don’t just rush one path—explore side areas and optional paths in Oshima Coast to find extra loot.
  • Upgrade your loot-detection and drop rates
If the game allows gear or perks that boost drop rates, prioritize them to improve your gun-part yield per kill.
  • Revisit earlier zones once unlocked
After unlocking gun part drops, return to areas you’ve already cleared (if the game allows respawns) to mop up any hidden chests you missed.
  • Balance your use of gun parts
Try not to spend all your parts on one weapon early. Keep a reserve so you can upgrade multiple weapons as needed.
