Claude Design is a new workspace inside Claude that allows users to create prototypes, presentations, and other visual projects. While many people enjoy using it, some users accidentally enter Claude Design and then struggle to return to the normal Claude chat interface. Fortunately, there are several easy ways to exit Claude Design and get back to regular conversations.

Understanding Claude Design
Claude Design is a visual creation environment developed by Anthropic. It gives users a canvas where they can build layouts, presentations, and interactive designs through simple prompts.
Because it works differently from the normal chat interface, switching into it can sometimes feel confusing. Some users even think they have permanently changed their account, but that is not the case. Claude Design is simply another mode inside Claude.
Use the Back Button
The easiest way to leave Claude Design is by using the back option.
If you can see a back arrow or home icon at the top of the screen, simply click it. This will take you back to the standard Claude interface.
Recent updates have added this button to make switching between modes much easier. Therefore, make sure your application is fully updated.
Try Browser Navigation
If you are using Claude in a web browser, the browser’s back button often works immediately.
You can:
- Click the browser back button.
- Press Alt + Left Arrow on Windows.
- Press Command + Left Arrow on Mac.
These shortcuts function just like normal browser navigation and can return you to the previous screen.
Start a New Chat
Another simple solution is creating a new conversation.
Follow these steps:
- Open the sidebar.
- Click the New Chat button.
- Begin a fresh conversation.
This method forces Claude to open the regular chat interface again.
Restart the Application
Sometimes the issue is caused by a temporary bug. Closing and reopening the app can solve the problem.
To do this:
- Completely close Claude.
- End the process if necessary.
- Launch the application again.
Many users have reported that restarting immediately restores the normal interface.
Sign Out and Sign Back In
If restarting does not work, signing out can help refresh your session.
Follow these steps:
- Open your account menu.
- Select Sign Out.
- Close Claude.
- Open it again.
- Sign back into your account.
After logging in, most users are returned to the standard chat view.
Update Your Desktop Application
Older versions of the Claude desktop app may contain bugs that make leaving Claude Design difficult.
To avoid this issue:
- Check for updates.
- Install the newest version.
- Restart the application after updating.
Anthropic regularly improves the interface and fixes navigation problems, so running the latest version is important.
Remove the Design Address
If you entered Claude Design through a web browser, you can manually change the address.
Simply remove the “/design” section from the address bar and load the page again.
This redirects you back to the standard Claude experience.
What If Nothing Works?
In rare situations, the application may become stuck.
If that happens, try these solutions:
- Force close the program.
- Restart your computer.
- Sign out and back in.
- Install the newest update.
- Use the browser version instead of the desktop application.
These steps usually solve the problem quickly.
Why Does This Happen?
Claude Design is still relatively new. Like any recently released feature, occasional bugs and interface issues can appear.
Several users experienced missing navigation buttons shortly after updates were released. Fortunately, Anthropic continues improving the experience and has already introduced fixes to make switching between modes easier.
Most problems are temporary and do not affect your account or conversations.
