The Cellular Adapter is a useful piece of cyberware in Cyberpunk 2077, especially for players who invest heavily in Technical Ability. This implant improves V’s armor and provides several combat bonuses, including increased explosion resistance, Tech weapon damage, and faster recharge rates for Health Items and grenades. However, finding it is only part of the process. You also need a specific perk to unlock its full potential.

Here is how to get the Cellular Adapter, unlock the required perk, and decide whether this cyberware deserves a place in your build.
Where to Find the Cellular Adapter
You can purchase the Cellular Adapter from Ripperdocs throughout Night City. These specialists install cyberware and offer different implants as your character progresses.
Unlike unique weapons hidden behind difficult missions, the Cellular Adapter does not require you to complete a specific quest or defeat a particular enemy. You simply need to visit a Ripperdoc and check the available cyberware.
Follow these steps to obtain it:
- Open your map and locate a nearby Ripperdoc.
- Travel to the clinic and interact with the doctor.
- Open the cyberware shopping menu.
- Look for the Cellular Adapter under the Integumentary System category.
- Purchase the implant and install it if you meet the requirements.
Viktor Vektor’s clinic in Little China is one option. Other Ripperdocs can also sell the implant, so there is no need to travel across the entire city looking for a particular vendor.
How to Unlock the Built Different Perk
Although you can find the Cellular Adapter through Ripperdocs, you need the Built Different perk to use it properly.
This perk belongs to the Technical Ability attribute tree and becomes available at 15 Technical Ability. You must also unlock License to Chrome before purchasing Built Different.
To unlock it, follow this progression:
- Invest attribute points in Technical Ability until it reaches 15.
- Open the Technical Ability perk tree.
- Unlock License to Chrome.
- Purchase the Built Different perk.
Remember that attribute points and perk points are separate resources. Raising Technical Ability to 15 does not automatically grant the required perk.
If your character already has the necessary attribute level, check your existing perks before spending additional points. Once Built Different is unlocked, return to a Ripperdoc and install the Cellular Adapter.
What Does the Cellular Adapter Do?
The Cellular Adapter belongs to the Integumentary System, which contains cyberware designed to improve V’s defensive capabilities. Its main advantage is that its bonuses scale with your Technical Ability attribute.
For every point invested in Technical Ability, the implant provides:
- Explosion resistance: Increases resistance to explosive damage by 1%.
- Tech weapon damage: Improves Tech weapon damage by 0.5%.
- Health Item recharge: Increases Health Item recharge speed by 0.5%.
- Grenade recharge: Increases grenade recharge speed by 0.5%.
For example, a character with 20 Technical Ability receives 20% explosion resistance, 10% additional Tech weapon damage, and 10% faster recharge for Health Items and grenades.
The implant also provides armor, with the amount depending on its tier. Higher-tier versions offer more armor, making the Cellular Adapter useful for characters who want stronger defenses without giving up their preferred combat style.
Is the Cellular Adapter Worth Getting?
The Cellular Adapter is particularly useful for Technical Ability builds. Players who rely on Tech weapons, grenades, and frequent healing can benefit from several bonuses at once.
It is also worth considering if you regularly fight enemies who use explosives. Additional explosion resistance can make dangerous encounters more manageable.
However, the implant is less attractive for builds that invest very few points in Technical Ability. Since its bonuses scale with that attribute, characters focused on other attributes may receive less value from its special effects.
Before purchasing it, consider your existing cyberware and available Cyberware Capacity. You should avoid sacrificing an important implant simply to equip another piece of cyberware with limited benefits for your build.
