If your Pokémon have taken damage after a difficult battle, you will need to heal them before using them again. Pokémon GO does not automatically restore a Pokémon’s HP after every fight. Instead, you must use Potions or Revives from your Item Bag, depending on the Pokémon’s condition.

Healing Pokémon in Pokémon GO is simple once you know which item to use. Regularly checking your team after Raids, Gym Battles, and Team GO Rocket Battles can also prevent you from getting caught with a weak team when you need it most.

How To Heal Pokémon In Pokémon GO

To heal a Pokémon that has lost HP but has not fainted, follow these steps:

  1. Open Pokémon GO and tap the Main Menu button.
  2. Select Items to open your Item Bag.
  3. Find and select a Potion.
  4. Choose the damaged Pokémon from the list.
  5. Use the Potion to restore its HP.

The game will show how much HP the selected item can restore. If the Pokémon still has missing HP afterward, you can use another Potion until its HP is full.

Remember that Potions cannot be used on a Pokémon with 0 HP. A fainted Pokémon must be revived first.

Which Potion Should You Use?

Pokémon GO has several types of Potions, and each restores a different amount of HP. Choosing the right one helps you avoid wasting stronger items on Pokémon that only need a small amount of healing.

  • Potion: Restores 20 HP.
  • Super Potion: Restores 50 HP.
  • Hyper Potion: Restores 200 HP.
  • Max Potion: Fully restores the Pokémon’s HP.

For example, using a Max Potion on a Pokémon that is missing only a few HP is usually unnecessary. A basic Potion may be enough. On the other hand, a Max Potion can save time when a powerful Pokémon has taken heavy damage.

How To Revive Fainted Pokémon

If a Pokémon has fainted, you cannot use a Potion on it. You first need a Revive or Max Revive.

Open your Item Bag, select Revive, and choose one of your fainted Pokémon. A normal Revive brings the Pokémon back and restores half of its maximum HP. If you want to bring it back at full health immediately, use a Max Revive instead.

The process is similar for both items:

  • Open the Item Bag.
  • Select Revive or Max Revive.
  • Choose the fainted Pokémon.
  • Confirm the item.

After using a normal Revive, you can use a Potion if the Pokémon needs more HP.

How To Get Potions And Revives

Healing items can be earned through normal gameplay, so you do not have to depend entirely on the in-game Shop. You can receive Potions and Revives from sources such as PokéStops, Gyms, Gifts, Research rewards, battle rewards, and level-up rewards, although the exact items you receive can vary.

Raids, Gym Battles, and Team GO Rocket encounters are particularly important for players who regularly need healing supplies. Spinning available PokéStops and Gym Photo Discs whenever you are exploring is also a useful habit.

Best Way To Manage Healing Items

Do not use your strongest healing items automatically. Keep a mixture of Potions, Super Potions, Hyper Potions, Revives, and Max Revives in your bag.

If a Pokémon has only minor damage, use a regular Potion. Save stronger Potions for Pokémon with larger amounts of missing HP. Likewise, save Max Revives for situations where restoring a fainted Pokémon to full health immediately is valuable.

It is also smart to check your team before entering a Raid or another difficult battle. A few seconds spent healing can save you from having to leave a battle early or use weaker backup Pokémon.
