In this article, we explore the step-by-step guide to transform your public TikTok account private. With your new private account, you significantly limit those who have access to your account. Keep reading to uncover how to make TikTok private and more!

How to Make Your TikTok Account Private

Your TikTok account is set to public right off the bat. This way, you can boost your account when you buy TikTok likes and see it reach a wider audience. But if you want to limit those who have access to your comments and direct messages, you must switch to private. To do that, you need to follow a couple of steps:

Step 1: Open your TikTok account. Perhaps you are new to the platform and want a private account immediately; follow the on-screen instructions to set up an account. After, follow the steps on this list.

Step 2: If you already have an account, navigate to the me labeled humanoid symbol.

Step 3: Tap on the “me” labeled figurine at the bottom of your screen. This page features your followers, following, and three horizontal lines at the top right corner.

Step 4: Click on the three bars in the upper right corner.

Step 5: Under My QR code, tap on Settings and Privacy.

Step 6: Then, under Account, tap on Privacy.

Step 7: Tapping Privacy leads to the Discoverability page, and here, you will find the option to turn your account private. Switch the toggle to activate your private account.

Note: When you know how to private a TikTok account, remember your description remains visible. You don’t want to get carried away and post any personal information like your address on your TikTok private account description!

How to Go About Other Privacy Settings on TikTok

If you don’t want videos shrouded from the public’s eyes, you can opt for other privacy options. Thankfully, TikTok offers an array of other privacy options you can consider. Here, we touch on all the options and how you can get started to safeguard your privacy on TikTok:

  • Control who gets to comment on your posts: Scroll down on TikTok’s Discoverability page, and under the “Safety” section, click on comments. Comments are the first option, and once you click it, it leads you to the page where you pick those who get to comment on your uploads. The options include Everyone, Friends (followers that follow you back), and No one.
  • Adjust the Duet and Stitch: The fourth and fifth options under the safety tab are Duet and Stitch. Like the comments setting, click the option and pick between the options: Everyone, Friends, and No One.
  • Decide who gets to message you: You may not want people sending barrages of messages in your DM; below the safety tab, you will see Direct Message. Click the option and select who you would rather have texting you on TikTok.
  • Mentions: If you don’t want random people mentioning you in posts, you can edit it by tweaking the settings under the safety tab. Here, you can entirely prevent anyone from mentioning you on TikTok.
  • Reporting and Filtering: While you might be hesitant to limit your comment section, you can decide to filter what makes it to your post’s comments. Alternatively, you can report or block users that are harmful to your brand with hate comments.

TikTok is a powerhouse for content today. And with so many people on it, your privacy is imperative. You can tweak the settings above to match your privacy preferences. Also, know that opting for a TikTok-protected account doesn’t stop you from viewing other creators’ work as well.

Key Takeaway

How to make your account private on TikTok is simple. It only takes a few clicks, and tada, you are done. To customize your privacy settings, follow our five-step process above. But if you only want the hateful comments out, you can choose to disable or report them. And before we forget, if you are an influencer looking to increase your follower count, you might want to buy TikTok likes from Followzilla. Enjoy browsing through videos on your TikTok private account.
