Postcards are collectible memories attached to Gifts in Pokémon GO. Every Gift comes from a PokéStop or Gym, and its postcard shows the location where that Gift was collected. You can save these postcards in your Postcard Book and keep track of places visited by you or your friends.

Pinning postcards is also important if you are working toward the Vivillon Collector medal. Different parts of the world are linked to different Vivillon patterns, so collecting postcards from different regions can help you encounter Scatterbug and eventually evolve it into Vivillon.
How To Pin A Postcard From A Friend
The easiest way to pin a postcard is through a Gift sent by a friend. The important part is timing: you need to pin the postcard before opening the Gift.
Follow these steps:
- Open Pokémon GO and tap your Trainer profile.
- Select the Friends tab.
- Find a friend who has sent you a Gift.
- Tap that friend and select the Gift.
- Look at the postcard attached to the Gift.
- Tap the pin icon to save the postcard.
- After it is pinned, you can open the Gift normally.
The pin icon changes to show that the postcard has been saved. If you accidentally tap the pin, tapping it again removes the postcard from your collection.
Do not open the Gift first if you want to save its postcard. Once a friend’s Gift has been opened, Pokémon GO no longer gives you the option to save that postcard.
How To Pin Your Own Postcards
You can save postcards from Gifts that you collected yourself. Open your Item Bag, find the Gift, and tap the save or pin button on its postcard. The postcard will then be added to your Postcard Book.
You must save it while the Gift is still in your Item Bag. Once you send the Gift, you cannot save its postcard for yourself.
How To Find Your Postcard Book
There are two simple ways to access your Postcard Book. From your Trainer Profile, look for the Postcard Book button. You can also open your Item Bag and select the Postcard Book.
Inside the book, you can browse saved postcards and view information such as when the postcard was received and which friend sent it. You can also sort your collection by date or by the Trainer name of the person who sent the postcard.
Why Should You Pin Postcards?
For many players, the main reason to pin postcards is Vivillon. Postcards from different geographic regions contribute to the Vivillon Collector medal. When you make enough progress for a region, you can encounter Scatterbug associated with that area.
Scatterbug evolves into Vivillon, and its wing pattern depends on the region represented by the postcards you collected. This makes postcards useful for players trying to collect different Vivillon patterns.
Postcard Storage And Removing Pins
Your Postcard Book has a storage limit. The default capacity is 350 postcards, and additional Postcard Pages can be purchased when you need more room.
If you want to remove one, open the postcard in your Postcard Book and use the available menu option to delete it. Be careful because deleting a saved postcard is permanent.
If you accidentally pin a postcard while viewing a Gift and immediately change your mind, you can tap the pin again to remove it.
