Skate 4 (also known simply as skate.) is a free-to-play, always-online skateboarding sandbox that lets players from different platforms play, race, skate, and hang out together in the fictional city of San Vansterdam. If you want to play with friends, whether they’re on PC, Xbox, or PlayStation.

Before trying to connect with friends, make sure:
- You have a working internet connection (since the game is always online).
- Your game is updated to the latest version.
- You have an EA account (for cross-platform features).
- The person you’re trying to play with is also using a compatible platform (PC, Xbox, PlayStation).
Cross-Play & Cross-Progression
Skate 4 supports cross-play by default, which means you can play with friends no matter what platform they’re on.
Cross-progression is also supported. That means your progress (levels, cosmetics, etc.) moves with your EA account across platforms.
How to Add Friends
To skate with someone, you first need to add them to your in-game friends list.
- Open the game, then go to the Main Menu.
- Go to the Hub tab.
- Find and select Social & Spectate.
- Choose “Search” and type in your friend’s EA username (or ID). Accuracy helps—mistyping may lead to the wrong profile.
- When you find them, select Add EA Friend. Your friend must accept the request via their game in the Requests tab under Social & Spectate.
Adjusting Privacy & Invite Settings
Sometimes the problem with not being able to connect is due to privacy or invite settings. Adjusting them may fix issues where friends can’t see each other or can’t send invites.
- Go to Social & Spectate → Settings.
- Find options like Allow Friend Requests or Allow Party Invites. Choose between Everyone, Friends Only, or No One.
- If you play on Xbox, also check your console privacy & online safety settings. They can override in-game settings.
Joining Friends or Inviting Them to Play
Once you’re friends in the game, here’s how to get into a session together:
- Open the Social & Spectate menu. Your friends who are online should show up (if their presence is visible).
- If your friend is online, use the invite function to send them a party or session invite.
- Sometimes, due to bugs or delays, your friend might not immediately appear online or their invite won’t show up. Try restarting the game or both players logging out and back in.
Common Issues & Troubleshooting
Even though the game is built for cross-platform multiplayer, there are still some glitches and obstacles. Here are a few and how to deal with them:
- Invisible friends: You might see their name but not their character. Solution: leave and rejoin parties, spectate then return, or completely restart.
- Invite not working: Check privacy settings. Ensure both players have cross-play enabled and that invite settings are permissive.
- Wrong profile found during friend search: Double-check EA IDs and usernames. Minor spelling mistakes can pick up similar names.
Playing Together in the City
Once you’re in the same party or session, you can:
- Roam the city together, skate around, try tricks.
- Take on challenges or missions together.
- Spectate one another or help each other out (share tips, show off combos).
Since the city is multiplayer, you’ll likely see many other players around too. That adds to the community feeling.
