Diablo 4 Season 15 brings back one of the most recognizable locations in the series: Tristram. However, you cannot simply travel there from the normal world map. The town is tied to a hidden Deckard Cain storyline that asks you to explore Sanctuary and collect his lost journals. Once you complete the required steps, a portal will take you into a recreation of the classic Tristram.
Your first major task is finding all 10 of Deckard Cain’s Journals scattered around Sanctuary. You need to explore several regions and check areas around towns, roads, and landmarks.
The journals can be collected in different orders by players. When you get close to one, watch your map and minimap for its marker. Some are tucked away in less obvious locations, so search the nearby buildings and paths if you do not immediately see one.
The important point is simple: you need all 10 journals before the Tristram portal becomes available.
Complete Deckard’s Journey
After collecting the tenth journal, return to Deckard Cain in the Imperial Library in Kehjistan. Speak with him to continue the hidden quest, Deckard’s Journey.
Once the quest is completed, a new portal called Deckard’s Memory appears near Cain. This portal is your actual route to Tristram. Enter it, and your character will be transported to the old town recreated inside Diablo 4.
You do not need to search the entire world map for a Tristram waypoint. The portal in the Imperial Library is the intended entrance.
Enter Old Tristram
When you step through Deckard’s Memory, you arrive in Tristram, filled with references to the original Diablo. Several familiar characters can be found around the town, including Deckard Cain, Wirt, Griswold, Ogden, Adria, and other recognizable figures.
There are also activities connected to the classic game. For example, Ogden can give you a quest involving his missing tavern sign, while another quest sends you after the Butcher.
This area is also part of the Season 15 secret chain connected to the Hellfire Torch reward.
How to Reach Echo of Tristram
If your goal is not just visiting the town but reaching the special Echo of Tristram encounter, there are additional steps.
First, you need the three Prime Evil Splinters associated with Terror, Destruction, and Hatred. These are connected to the seasonal content involving Diablo, Baal, and Mephisto. The three Splinters can then be combined through a hidden Horadric Cube recipe to create Wirt’s Lucky Coins.
Take the coins to the fountain in Tristram. Interacting with the fountain while meeting the required difficulty conditions opens another portal. This leads to Echo of Tristram, where you face the echoes of the three Prime Evils.
