Want to set up Google Authenticator on your new phone? Follow the guide to know how you can do so! Here are all the steps that you will need to do so. So, let’s get started.
What is Google Authenticator?
Google Authenticator is a free security app that acts like a digital key for your online accounts and gives you protection. It provides Two-Factor Authentication, also called 2FA, meaning that even if someone steals your password, they still can’t get into your account without your phone. This is like a door having two locks!
The app generates a unique six-digit code that changes every 30 seconds, and it helps to save your accounts and their data. When you log in to a site like Google, Facebook, or Amazon, you’ll enter your password first, then the current code from the app. Because it generates codes locally, it doesn’t even need the internet all the time. If you are concerned about your online privacy, you can take steps to help.

If you want to set up Google Authenticator on a new phone, then these are the steps that you can follow.
Method 1 – The Cloud Sync Method
Google now syncs codes to your Google Account by default. You can do so, especially if you have updated the app recently.
- Check your old phone- Open Authenticator on your old phone and look for a green cloud icon at the top right. If it’s there, your codes are backed up.
- Install on the new phone- Download Google Authenticator from the App Store or Play Store on the new phone.
- Sign in- Log in with the same Google Account that you’re using. Your codes will automatically appear right there.
Method 2- The Manual Transfer
You can use this if you don’t use the cloud sync feature or are switching between Android and iPhone, without even having an account there.
- Old Phone- In your old phone, tap on the menu > Transfer accounts > Export accounts. Select your accounts, and a QR code will appear on the screen.
- New Phone- On the phone, tap on Get Started > Import existing accounts? at the bottom.
- Scan- Select Scan QR code and use your new phone to scan the code on your old screen.
Things to Remember
