Troubled by these unknown callers making calls on your phone? Don’t worry, we’ve got you. Follow the guide to know how you can silence these calls in a few steps. We shall discuss the process along with all the important information. So, let’s get started.
What does it mean to silence unknown callers?
If you ever had a gatekeeper on your phone, this would be it. When you turn this on, your phone won’t ring if the incoming number isn’t in your contacts, outgoing calls, or even in the recent Siri suggestions. Instead of interrupting your day, the call goes straight to voicemail. The phone, however, doesn’t completely register the call, and the number shows up in your “Recents” list. This is just fine if you are tired of picking up calls from scammers, telemarketing callers, or others. You can switch it on and off as per your convenience, and that shouldn’t be a problem.
Steps to silence unknown callers
If you’ve been repeatedly called by unknown numbers, especially for reasons that you don’t like, or you just want a break from this incessant calling, you can follow these steps. Also, remember that these steps carry some variations depending on the device you are using, so make sure you follow the right ones.
On iPhone (iOS)
- Open your Settings app. Since this is the control room for your device, this is where everything begins.
- Now scroll down until you find Phone and tap on it, and look for the option that says Silence Unknown Callers.
- Toggle the switch to On. And it’s done! Incoming calls from numbers not in your contacts will now go straight to voicemail and show up in your “Recents” list.
On Android
- Open the Phone app that you use to make calls.
- Now tap on the three vertical dots in the top right corner to open up a menu.
- Select Settings from the menu, then tap on Blocked numbers.
- Find the toggle for Unknown and switch it on. This will do it!
This blocks calls from unidentified or private callers, which may not be added to your contacts. If you want to filter out general spam, you can also go to Caller ID & spam in the same menu and enable Filter spam calls. There are third-party apps as well that ensure that you only receive the calls that you want to receive.
So, that’s all you need to know about it. You can change the settings later on if that’s what you feel like doing, but for now, you can do this.
