If you’ve played Skate 4 (also known simply as Skate.), you might have heard about a speed glitch that lets players move way faster than normal. Glitches like this can be fun to explore, but they often take patience and a lot of tries. Below is a guide on how to perform one of the most popular speed glitches, how it works, and tips for doing it reliably. Read through carefully, practice, and get ready to fly across the map.

A speed glitch is a trick or bug in Skate 4 that allows your character to gain far more speed than intended by the game designers. These glitches usually combine specific actions like tricks, stances, or input timing to trigger unnatural velocity. Some glitches include launch effects (getting air) or dramatic boosts along the ground. Players discover them by experimentation, community sharing, and accidental discoveries during playtests.

Steps to Perform the Speed Glitch

Here is a commonly used method shared by players. It may not work every time (patches or updates can disable it), but with practice, it becomes more consistent.

  1. Get Moving First
Before doing anything fancy, build up some speed. Make sure you are skating normally, pushing off, or using momentum. The glitch works better if you’re already in motion.
  2. Perform a 180-Degree Trick
Once you have enough speed, do any 180 trick (spin your board or your body so that you turn your direction by 180 degrees). This sets you into what players sometimes call “fakie” mode—your stance and orientation change in a way that’s important for the next steps.
  3. Enter Fakie Mode
After the 180, you must remain in fakie (backward-like stance) or a stance that mimics fakie. Do not push again after entering fakie, because pushing can break the glitch. The game needs that backward momentum or the fakie stance for the glitch to work.
  4. Do the “Superdude” Trick
The “Superdude” is a trick where you hold both trigger buttons (LT & RT on Xbox / L2 & R2 on PlayStation), plus the jump or trick button (often shown as B on Xbox / O on PlayStation). As soon as you hit the ground after performing it, release those buttons. The release timing is crucial. If done correctly, this triggers the glitch.
  5. Let Go at the Right Moment
The moment your feet touch the ground after the Superdude trick is the crucial point. Releasing the triggers + jump button at this time can trigger the speed boost. If you do it too early or too late, the glitch may fail.
  6. Enjoy the Boost—but Stay Safe
Once the glitch activates, your speed increases a lot. Be careful of crashing, cliffs, obstacles, or falling off the map. Sometimes glitches send you flying or launching, which can break your run or trigger fall damage or resets.

Tips for Success

  • Practice Timing: The biggest part of this glitch is timing—especially when to release buttons after landing. Try it many times to get the feel.
  • Use Smooth Terrain: Flat or gentle downhill surfaces work better. Avoid rough ground or steep drops until you’re more confident.
  • Enable Relevant Settings: Make sure your controls are set so you can hold stances like fakie or fake stance, if available. Players report that “hold fake stance” helps in some setups.
  • Watch Others Do It: Watching video tutorials or community clips helps. Seeing how others time their inputs, how they angle, how fast they’re going—these visual clues matter.
  • Be Prepared for Inconsistency: Because glitches are not officially part of how the game works, they may not always work. Sometimes the game version, update status, or even when you are connected to servers may affect outcomes.
  • Respect Patch Updates: Game developers often patch out glitches. If one method stops working, check forums or Reddit to see if there’s a newly discovered version or workaround.
