The Elder Scrolls IV: Oblivion Remastered breathes new life into a beloved classic, offering players an enriched experience with updated graphics and seamless integration of its expansions. Among these, the Shivering Isles stands out, inviting adventurers into the chaotic realm of Sheogorath, the Daedric Prince of Madness. Embarking on this journey is straightforward, yet knowing the steps ensures a smooth transition into the Isles’ eccentric world.

Your adventure begins with the game’s tutorial, set in the Imperial City’s sewers. This introductory segment acquaints you with the game’s mechanics and sets the stage for your journey. Upon escaping the sewers, you gain access to the expansive world of Cyrodiil. It’s at this point that the path to the Shivering Isles becomes available.
Locating the Strange Door
Once you’ve stepped into the open world, open your map and locate the city of Bravil, situated southeast of the Imperial City along the shores of Niben Bay. You can fast travel to Bravil immediately. From there, head east towards the bay. In the middle of Niben Bay lies a small, unmarked island distinguished by a peculiar, head-shaped rock formation. This is the site of the “Strange Door.”
As you approach the island, the quest “A Door in Niben Bay” will automatically be added to your journal. This quest serves as your entry point into the Shivering Isles expansion.
Interacting with the Portal
Upon reaching the Strange Door, you’ll encounter a guard named Gaius Prentus and another NPC, S’fara. Engage in conversation with Gaius to learn about the mysterious door. During your interaction, a Dark Elf named Belmyne Dreleth will emerge from the portal, exhibiting erratic behavior before attacking. Assist Gaius in subduing Belmyne.
After the confrontation, speak with Gaius again to exhaust his dialogue options. Shortly thereafter, you’ll hear a disembodied voice emanating from the portal, expressing a desire for a new champion. Once the voice concludes its monologue, the portal becomes active, allowing you to enter.
Entering the Shivering Isles
Stepping through the portal transports you to a dimly lit chamber. Here, you’ll find Haskill, the chamberlain of Sheogorath, seated opposite an empty chair. Take a seat to initiate a conversation with him. Haskill will provide insight into the realm of the Shivering Isles and the challenges that await.
At this juncture, you have the option to accept Sheogorath’s invitation or decline and return to Cyrodiil. Should you choose to proceed, the room will dissolve into a flurry of butterflies, symbolizing your transition into the Shivering Isles. This marks the conclusion of the “A Door in Niben Bay” quest and the commencement of your journey through the Isles.
Timing Your Entry
While the Shivering Isles expansion is accessible immediately after the tutorial, it’s advisable to consider your character’s level before diving in. The realm presents formidable challenges, and entering at a higher level, such as 15 or above, ensures that you encounter appropriately scaled enemies and obtain more potent loot. This approach allows you to fully experience the depth and intricacies of the expansion without being overwhelmed.
Navigating the Isles
Upon entering the Shivering Isles, you’ll find yourself in the Fringe, the gateway to the realm. From here, a myriad of quests, characters, and locations await discovery. The Isles are divided into two distinct regions: Mania and Dementia, each reflecting different aspects of Sheogorath’s madness. As you progress, you’ll encounter unique challenges and narratives that delve deeper into the lore and eccentricities of this Daedric realm.
Returning to Cyrodiil
Should you wish to return to the main game world, you can do so at any time. Simply locate the portal you initially used to enter the Shivering Isles, now situated at the Gates of Madness within the Fringe. Stepping through this portal will transport you back to Niben Bay, allowing you to continue your adventures in Cyrodiil.
