What is app tracking on an iPhone?

App Tracking is not less than a digital trail that many people get annoyed with. Many apps like to follow you across other companies’ apps and websites to see what your purchase trends are and more. This includes buying, searching for, and so much more. They do this to build a profile of your habits, usually to sell that data to advertisers so that they can send the specific advertisements your way. This improves the sales of websites and apps. On an iPhone, Apple’s App Tracking Transparency helps you take control of the matter. When you download a new app, you’ll see a pop-up on the screen asking if it has permission to track you. This is the thing! You get the control at this point. If you say “Ask App Not to Track,” the app loses access to your phone’s unique ID, making it much harder for advertisers to follow your every move. This basically lets you browse in privacy, without your app data and trends being followed.

Steps to stop app tracking on an iPhone

If you want to stop an app from tracking on an iPhone, then these are the steps that you can follow.

Open your Settings

This is the control room! So, find the settings icon on your home screen and tap on it.

Find “Privacy & Security”

Scroll down in the menu and find the option that you’re looking for! This is the center for all your data permissions!

Tracking

This option will be located in the list that opens up. Once you click on this, you’ll see a list of every app that has requested to track your activity. You can now have an entire map of all the apps that actively use it.

Toggle Off

You will see the next option as “Allow Apps to Request to Track.” If you toggle this OFF, you’ll never see those pop-ups again that may have been annoying. Your iPhone will automatically tell every new app “No” since you have chosen this as your setting.

Manage Existing Apps

If the toggle was already taken care of, look at the list below it. You can manually revoke access for specific apps. Once you’ve done this, apps are technically stopped from accessing your device’s IDFA, making your digital footprint much harder to follow. This is something that can help you browse the way you want.

These are the steps that you can follow to stop app tracking on an iPhone.
