What does it mean to turn off auto update for TikTok?

To turn off auto updates for TikTok means that the updates of TikTok that were taking place on their own till now, will only take place when you approve of it. That is, not controlled by the system, but when you manually do it yourself.

How can I turn off auto updates on TikTok?

If you want to turn off auto updates on TikTok, then these are the steps that you can follow with Android as well as with iPhones –

Android

This is for the users of an Android phone or a tablet. This will require you to do this –

  • Go to the Google Play Store and search TikTok.
  • Once it opens, click on the three dots on the right side of it.
  • Now under a few options, a box will appear with a tick in front of it. Now click on that box to get that tick gone. It is the box that asks for permission for auto updates for the apps concerned, here TikTok.

And it will be done. Once you uncheck the box, the auto updates for TikTok will automatically stop on your Android device, till the time you manually turn it back on.

iPhones

If you are an iPhone user, then you can follow these steps –

  • Open the Settings App on your iPhone and look for the App Store.
  • Now move to App Updates and move the toggle in front of Automatic Downloads.

This will turn off auto downloads for apps on your iPhone, until your further command.

Reasons to turn off auto updates for TikTok?

There are multiple reasons that can propel somebody to turn off auto updates for TikTok on their phones. The main reasons include –

Comfort with the older version

One reason that people don’t want to update an app is because they are comfortable with a particular version of an app, and they don’t want it to change. Moreover, sometimes newer versions come with glitches that add to the frustration.

To avert the ban

Yes, at least in the case of TikTok it is true. Since it is banned in many places, including the US now, the residents who still want to use the app are afraid to update to a newer version, fearing that they will lose the app altogether.

For personal reasons

There may be personal reasons involved, like the discomfort one feels when the updates take place on their own, sometimes even taking up the meagre space available on the device.

Whatever your reason, you can turn off the auto updates for TikTok on your devices with the given methods and enjoy using the version you’re the most comfortable with.
