What does it mean to turn off profile views on LinkedIn?

Turning off profile views on LinkedIn is basically turning on the “incognito mode” Or wearing an invisibility cloak for your professional browsing. Normally, when you click on someone’s profile, they get a notification with your name and job title. They can open the notification, visit your profile, and browse through your uploaded content as well. By switching to private mode, you become a “LinkedIn Member” to them. And it doesn’t reveal your account or your name to them. What is an important point to note? It goes both ways. If you hide your identity to browse anonymously, LinkedIn takes away your ability to see who has been looking at your profile, too. It is great to maintain browsing privacy. You do not appear unnecessarily on their feed or their notifications, avoiding unnecessary attention.

Steps to turn off profile views on LinkedIn

If you want to turn off the profile views on LinkedIn, then these are the steps that you can follow.

Go to your Profile Icon

Find your Profile icon at the top of the LinkedIn homepage labeled “Me.” Click on that to open the dropdown menu.

Select “Settings & Privacy”

When the menu opens up in front of you, you can access all the account controls. While there are a lot of options out there, you need to thicken your focus.

Click on “Visibility”

This is the section that controls how you show up to the rest of the professional world. Jump in!

Find “Profile viewing options”

This is usually the very first option under the Visibility section. Click on the “Change” button next to it. This shall let you adjust the privacy level.

Pick your Privacy Level

You’ll see three choices in front of you. To be completely anonymous, you can select “Private mode.” This turns you into simply a “LinkedIn Member.”

Let it Auto-Save

LinkedIn saves your changes instantly, and you don’t have to go for manual saving. Once the settings are taken care of, they are done until you decide to change them.

Now you can easily keep an eye on your competitors and other pages without making yourself known as a visitor. However, it comes with the responsibility to act within the regulations of the platform.
