Hyundai is preparing to strengthen its position in the world’s largest electric vehicle market with the upcoming launch of the all-new Ioniq V. After making its debut at the 2026 Beijing Auto Show with limited information, fresh details have now emerged through filings with China’s Ministry of Industry and Information Technology (MIIT), offering a closer look at what buyers can expect.
The sleek fastback EV is scheduled to arrive in China before the end of the year and represents an important step in Hyundai’s efforts to regain momentum in a market increasingly dominated by local electric vehicle manufacturers.
Two Battery Options With Competitive Driving Range
One of the biggest highlights of the Ioniq V is its impressive range figures. Hyundai will offer the model in two battery configurations, both utilizing lithium iron phosphate (LFP) battery technology supplied by CATL.
The entry-level version comes equipped with a 53.5 kWh battery pack paired with an electric motor producing 188 horsepower. Depending on the selected trim and equipment level, Hyundai claims a driving range of between 520 km and 540 km under the Chinese CLTC testing cycle.
For customers seeking longer journeys between charging stops, Hyundai will also offer a larger 66.8 kWh battery. This version is matched with a more powerful 225 hp electric motor and delivers a claimed range of between 620 km and 650 km. These figures place the Ioniq V among the more competitive electric offerings in its segment.
Designed for Space and Comfort
The Ioniq V adopts a fastback silhouette while maintaining generous cabin dimensions. The vehicle measures 4,900 mm in length, 1,890 mm in width, and 1,470 mm in height. A wheelbase of 2,900 mm should translate into a spacious interior, particularly for rear-seat passengers.
The design reflects Hyundai’s growing focus on blending aerodynamic efficiency with practicality. The streamlined profile not only enhances the vehicle’s visual appeal but also contributes to improved driving efficiency.
Massive 27-Inch Display Takes Center Stage
Inside the cabin, Hyundai has embraced the growing demand for technology-rich interiors. The standout feature is a large 27-inch dual-screen setup that spans a significant portion of the dashboard.
The expansive display is expected to handle both infotainment and vehicle functions while providing a modern, premium experience for drivers and passengers alike.
Adding to its technological credentials, the Ioniq V is equipped with an advanced driver assistance system developed in partnership with Chinese autonomous driving specialist Momenta. The system is expected to offer a range of intelligent safety and convenience features tailored for local consumers.
EREV Version Also in the Pipeline
Hyundai has confirmed that an Extended Range Electric Vehicle (EREV) variant is also under development for the Chinese market. While technical specifications have yet to be announced, the addition of an EREV option could help attract buyers who want electric driving benefits without range anxiety.
With its long driving range, modern interior technology, and locally tailored features, the Ioniq V appears positioned to compete more effectively in China’s rapidly evolving EV landscape. As Hyundai prepares for its official launch later this year, the new fastback could become one of the brand’s most important electric vehicles in the region.
