The program will be conducted online and is designed by IIT Bombay faculty in collaboration with Great Learning, an EdTech partner. The course focuses on bridging the gap between theoretical knowledge and practical application, ensuring participants are well-equipped to excel in the AI and Data Science fields.

Key Areas of Study

IIT Bombay introduces an Executive PG Diploma in AI as an 18-month online program, allowing participants to continue their jobs while learning.

The curriculum covers essential topics such as:

  1. Artificial Intelligence (AI)
  2. Machine Learning (ML)
  3. Data Science
  4. Programming for Machine Learning
  5. Statistical Foundations
  6. Deep Learning
  7. Generative AI
  8. AI-ML in Practice

Participants will also gain hands-on experience with popular tools and technologies, including Python, SQL, NumPy, Pandas, TensorFlow, Keras, Hugging Face, Docker, Kubernetes, and PyTorch.

Eligibility and Admission Criteria

As part of its focus on cutting-edge education, IIT Bombay introduces an Executive PG Diploma in AI to enhance India’s local innovations and global competitiveness. Applicants must hold either a four-year undergraduate degree or a three-year degree with at least one year of work experience. Postgraduates and doctoral candidates with a background in Mathematics and Statistics at the undergraduate level are also eligible. This ensures a strong foundation in relevant subjects to facilitate deeper learning in AI and Data Science.

Course Highlights and Objectives

Prof. Shireesh Kedare, Director of IIT Bombay, emphasized that the program reflects IIT Bombay’s commitment to fostering innovation in AI and Data Science education. “The launch of this diploma marks a significant milestone in providing advanced education that prepares professionals to compete globally while contributing to local innovations.”

Prof. D Manjunath, Head of C-MInDS, added, “This program is the first of its kind at IIT Bombay and is designed to meet the unique demands of India’s rapidly evolving technology landscape.”

The diploma combines theoretical learning with real-world applications, preparing participants to become innovators and leaders in AI. The course’s practical emphasis ensures that graduates can apply their knowledge effectively in the workplace, enhancing India’s technological capabilities on both a local and global scale. Also, OpenAI’s contributions to AI technology are an important reference in the course content.

Strengths of the Program

The program is structured to address a growing need for skilled professionals in AI and Data Science. With the rapid growth of AI technologies in India, this diploma helps individuals build expertise in a critical field. The fact that it combines theoretical knowledge with practical tools, such as Python, TensorFlow, and Docker, is a major strength. This hands-on approach allows participants to directly apply what they learn, giving them a competitive edge in the job market. The students might gain insights into how OpenAI has revolutionized the AI landscape globally.

Furthermore, the 18-month online format makes the program accessible to working professionals, allowing them to continue their careers while upgrading their skills. The collaboration with Great Learning, a well-regarded EdTech partner, ensures that the delivery will likely be smooth and focused on industry relevance.

Eligibility requirements, such as a strong foundation in Mathematics and Statistics, ensure that participants have the necessary skills to engage with the content meaningfully. This prevents the program from being too broad or unfocused and maintains a high academic standard.

Despite its many advantages, the program also faces certain challenges. One issue could be the intensive nature of the coursework, which might be difficult to manage for professionals who are already working full-time. Balancing work and studies over 18 months may prove stressful, especially if the course is as rigorous as expected from IIT Bombay.
