Owners of certain Jeep Wrangler and Gladiator models are being urged to take precautions after Stellantis announced a major recall involving more than 1.08 million vehicles across the United States due to a potential fire hazard.
The recall affects select Jeep Wrangler and Jeep Gladiator vehicles from model years 2021 through 2025. According to the automaker, a defect involving the electric hydraulic power steering pump wiring could create conditions that increase the risk of a vehicle fire.
Electrical Issue Triggers Safety Concern
Stellantis said the issue stems from a possible electrical connection fault within the power steering pump wiring system. In rare cases, the faulty connection may generate excessive heat, causing nearby combustible materials to overheat and potentially ignite.
What makes the issue particularly concerning is that a fire could occur even when the vehicle is parked and turned off.
The company notified the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) about the defect and has initiated a recall campaign to address the problem before it leads to more serious incidents.
Owners Advised to Park Away From Buildings
As a precautionary measure, Stellantis is advising owners of affected vehicles to avoid parking near homes, garages, or other vehicles until the necessary repairs are completed.
The recommendation comes after regulators noted that the defect could pose a risk even when the ignition is switched off, increasing the possibility of an unattended vehicle fire.
While the automaker emphasized that such incidents are expected to be rare, it is taking what it described as an “abundance of caution” approach to customer safety.
Recall Extends Beyond the United States
The recall is not limited to the U.S. market. Stellantis confirmed that approximately 253,000 additional vehicles in Canada, Mexico, and other international markets are also affected by the issue.
This brings the total number of recalled vehicles worldwide to well over 1.3 million units, making it one of the largest Jeep-related recalls in recent years.
Repair Solution Expected by July
Stellantis said it is actively working on a remedy and expects a repair solution to be available no later than July.
Affected customers will receive official recall notifications by first-class mail, providing instructions on when and how to schedule service appointments at authorized dealerships.
Repairs related to the recall will be carried out free of charge.
What Jeep Owners Should Do Next
Owners of 2021-2025 Jeep Wrangler and Gladiator models are encouraged to check whether their vehicles are included in the recall and remain alert for official communication from Stellantis.
Until the repair becomes available, following the company’s parking guidance could help reduce potential risks.
The recall serves as another reminder of how increasingly complex vehicle electrical systems can create unexpected safety challenges. As automakers continue to add advanced technologies and electronic components to modern vehicles, rapid identification and correction of defects remain critical to maintaining driver confidence and public safety.
