Jeep Reinstates Automatic Transmission for 2025 Wrangler V6 Following Customer Demand
TwitterWhatsappLinkedin

Jeep has announced a significant change to its 2025 Wrangler lineup: the return of the eight-speed automatic transmission for the V6-powered model. This decision comes just months after the automaker revealed plans to discontinue the automatic option for its 3.6-liter Pentastar V6 engine. Jeep’s reversal underscores its dedication to listening to customer feedback and maintaining its reputation for responsiveness to its loyal fan base.

A Decision Driven by Demand

In September, Jeep announced that the 2025 Wrangler would only offer a six-speed manual transmission for the V6 engine, signaling a shift toward a more purist off-roading experience. Customers who preferred an automatic transmission would need to opt for other powertrains, such as the turbocharged 2.0-liter inline-4, the plug-in hybrid 4xe, or the 392 Final Edition equipped with a 6.4-liter V8.

The decision to limit the V6 to a manual gearbox was met with widespread dissatisfaction from Wrangler enthusiasts, many of whom value the convenience and versatility of an automatic transmission, particularly for daily driving or challenging off-road conditions. The backlash was swift and vocal, prompting Jeep to reassess its plans.

Customer-Centric Response

Jeep’s decision to reinstate the automatic transmission highlights the brand’s commitment to meeting the needs and preferences of its customers. In a statement, Jeep acknowledged that the move was a direct response to the overwhelming number of customer requests for the return of the eight-speed automatic option.

The automatic transmission had been a staple of the Wrangler lineup for years, offering smooth shifting and excellent performance across various terrains. Its absence was seen as a significant drawback by many prospective buyers, especially those who rely on their Wranglers as multipurpose vehicles.

Wrangler Powertrain Options for 2025

With the eight-speed automatic transmission back in the mix, the 2025 Jeep Wrangler now boasts a comprehensive range of powertrain options to suit diverse driving needs:

  • 3.6-Liter Pentastar V6: Available with either the six-speed manual or the reinstated eight-speed automatic transmission.
  • 2.0-Liter Turbocharged Inline-4: Paired exclusively with the eight-speed automatic transmission, offering a balance of power and efficiency.
  • 4xe Plug-In Hybrid: Equipped with the eight-speed automatic, combining electric propulsion with traditional gas power for eco-conscious adventurers.
  • 392 Final Edition (6.4-Liter V8): Also paired with the automatic, delivering unmatched performance for the ultimate off-road experience.

This expanded lineup ensures that buyers have greater flexibility in customizing their Wranglers to match their driving style and requirements.

The Value of Listening to Customers

Jeep’s willingness to pivot based on customer feedback reinforces its reputation as a brand that prioritizes its fan base. Despite facing challenges in recent years, Jeep has consistently demonstrated its ability to adapt and innovate, driven by a deep understanding of its loyal community.

The decision to bring back the automatic transmission for the 2025 Wrangler V6 not only satisfies a key customer demand but also underscores the importance of offering versatility in a competitive market. By honoring the preferences of its enthusiasts, Jeep continues to strengthen its position as a leader in the off-road vehicle segment.
