Half a century after the original bowed out, the legendary Jensen Interceptor is making a dramatic comeback. This time, it arrives as the Interceptor GTX, a modern yet deeply nostalgic grand tourer that promises to stay true to its roots while pushing into ultra-high-performance territory.

Developed by Jensen International Automotive (JIA), the new GTX represents the company’s first all-new model rather than a reworked classic. Known for its meticulous restorations and restomods like the Interceptor R, JIA is now stepping into uncharted territory with a clean-sheet design.

Old-School Soul, Modern Muscle

Here’s the interesting bit. While most new performance cars are chasing screens and software, the Interceptor GTX is going the opposite way. JIA is aiming for a fully analogue driving experience.

That likely means a manual gearbox, tactile switches, and a cabin designed around the driver rather than digital clutter. It’s a deliberate throwback to an era when driving was raw, mechanical, and deeply personal.

Under the bonnet, things get serious. The GTX is expected to draw power from the latest Chevrolet Corvette V8 engine. In standard form, that 6.2-litre unit delivers close to 500bhp, but JIA has hinted at a bespoke powertrain setup, so don’t expect it to be stock.

What this really means is simple: classic British elegance, American muscle, and modern engineering all in one package.

Lightweight, Low Volume, High Exclusivity

The new Interceptor GTX will sit on a lightweight aluminium chassis, a move clearly aimed at maximising performance and agility. Combine that with a big V8, and you’re looking at a car built for serious driving, not just cruising.

Production will be described as “ultra-low,” which is industry speak for very rare and very expensive. Each unit will be hand-built, reinforcing its positioning as a collector’s piece rather than a mass-market GT.

This isn’t just a car you buy. It’s one you commission.

Design: Familiar Yet Forward-Looking

While full design details are still under wraps, early teasers suggest the GTX will stay loyal to the original Interceptor’s DNA. Expect:

  • A long, sculpted bonnet
  • A sleek, fastback-style roofline
  • A low, planted stance

It’s less about retro pastiche and more about evolving a timeless silhouette into something sharper and more contemporary.

A Likely Goodwood Debut

JIA hasn’t confirmed an official reveal date yet, but all signs point toward a debut at the Goodwood Festival of Speed in July. That would be a fitting stage, given the event’s reputation for celebrating both heritage and high performance.

Managing director David Duerden describes the GTX as a car that will take the luxury British GT theme to new heights, while still standing confidently as something entirely new.

Why This Matters

In a world rapidly shifting toward electrification and digital experiences, the Interceptor GTX feels like a statement. It’s for those who still value the connection between driver and machine.

No gimmicks. No over-reliance on tech. Just power, craftsmanship, and character.

And honestly, that’s exactly why it’s going to turn heads.
