A Star-Studded Journey to Space
Grammy-winning pop star Katy Perry is preparing for a journey beyond Earth as she joins the next Blue Origin spaceflight, marking another high-profile mission for Jeff Bezos’ aerospace company. The mission will also include Lauren Sanchez, former TV correspondent and Bezos’ fiancée, as well as veteran TV journalist Gayle King.
This upcoming flight will be Blue Origin’s 11th human spaceflight aboard the New Shepard rocket and is scheduled to take place sometime this spring. While an exact date has yet to be announced, Perry’s “Lifetimes Tour” is set to kick off on April 23, meaning she will likely complete her space adventure before embarking on her global concert series.
An All-Female Crew Making History
The six-person crew, consisting entirely of women, is a landmark moment for Blue Origin and the private space travel industry. Lauren Sanchez, who played a key role in assembling the team, has been an outspoken advocate for women in space exploration.

Although leisure trips to space have involved several famous people taking short journeys that don’t reach orbit, this will be the initial Blue Origin trip made up completely of female individuals. This journey represents progress towards more women being included in the exploration of space—a field that has traditionally been controlled by men.
Unlike traditional orbital missions conducted by NASA or SpaceX, Blue Origin’s New Shepard rocket offers a suborbital spaceflight experience. The journey will last approximately 10 minutes, during which the passengers will travel 65 miles above Earth.
For reference, the Kármán line, considered the boundary between Earth’s atmosphere and outer space, is at 62 miles. This means that Perry and the crew will officially cross into space but will not enter orbit like astronauts on the International Space Station.
During the trip, the crew will experience a few minutes of weightlessness and witness breathtaking views of Earth before re-entering the atmosphere and landing safely via parachutes.
Following in the Footsteps of Other Celebrity Space Travelers
Katy Perry and her fellow crew members will join an elite group of celebrities who have ventured into space aboard Blue Origin’s rockets.
In December 2021, “Good Morning America” co-host Michael Strahan took part in New Shepard’s third human spaceflight, describing the experience as “life-changing.”
Before Strahan, William Shatner, the legendary “Star Trek” actor, made headlines by boldly going into space in October 2021, at the age of 90, becoming the oldest person to ever travel to space.
Even Jeff Bezos himself took flight on Blue Origin’s first crewed mission in July 2021, marking a historic moment for commercial space tourism.
Other celebrities have also been slated for Blue Origin flights, including comedian Pete Davidson, who was scheduled to fly in March 2022 but ultimately withdrew due to a scheduling conflict.
