Lexus has officially ended sales of the UX 300e in the UK, bringing the brand’s first fully electric model to a close after just five years on the market. The electric SUV has quietly disappeared from the company’s website and online configurator, leaving the hybrid UX 300h as the only version of the model still available.
A spokesperson for Lexus confirmed that the UX 300e was “removed from sale in late 2025,” though the company stopped short of providing a detailed explanation for the decision.
The move effectively leaves the larger Lexus RZ as the brand’s only fully electric offering in the UK lineup for now.
Slow sales are likely behind the decision
While Lexus hasn’t publicly stated the reason, sluggish demand appears to be the most likely factor behind the model’s quiet exit.
Data from the vehicle registration tracking platform, How Many Left? indicates that fewer than 3,400 UX 300e units have been registered in the UK since the electric SUV first arrived in 2021. To put that number into perspective, the Ford Puma managed to outsell that figure in just one month earlier this year.
In a market where electric SUVs are multiplying rapidly, and consumer expectations are evolving just as quickly, the UX 300e struggled to stand out.
Limited range and outdated charging didn’t help
Part of the challenge came down to the car’s technical limitations.
The UX 300e was built around a relatively small 54.3kWh battery pack, delivering a WLTP-rated range of 186 miles. While that figure was competitive when the car first launched, it quickly began to look modest compared to newer electric rivals offering well over 250 miles on a single charge.
Charging technology was another sticking point. The UX 300e used the older CHAdeMO charging connector, a system that has gradually been phased out across Europe in favour of the more widely supported CCS standard.
These factors combined to make the UX 300e feel a step behind newer electric SUVs entering the market.
Lexus RZ now leads the brand’s EV push
With the UX 300e gone, the Lexus RZ now carries the brand’s electric ambitions in the UK.
Starting at £48,365, the RZ sits higher in the lineup and offers a more advanced electric platform. Depending on the version, the RZ can travel up to 346 miles on a full charge, a substantial leap over the UX 300e’s capabilities.
Charging performance is also significantly improved. Thanks to a maximum charging speed of 150kW, the RZ can recharge from 10 to 80 percent in roughly 28 minutes under ideal conditions.
The model is also positioned as a more premium offering, reflecting Lexus’ strategy of focusing on higher-end electric vehicles as it expands its EV portfolio.
Hybrid UX remains in the lineup
Despite the departure of the electric version, the UX nameplate itself is far from finished.
The UX 300h hybrid continues to be sold in the UK, positioned between the compact LBX and the larger NX in Lexus’ SUV range. Starting from £38,095, the hybrid crossover competes directly with models such as the BMW X1 and Audi Q3.
For now, Lexus appears to be doubling down on hybrids while preparing a stronger next wave of fully electric models. And while the UX 300e may not have been a major sales success, it still holds an important place in the brand’s history as Lexus’s first step into the fully electric era.
