Creator DON’T NOD, formerly known as DONTNOD Entertainment, gained notoriety in 2015 with the release of Life is Strange, an angsty story about teenage time travel. The game, which was released today and will inspire several sequels, has amassed over 20 million players. That wording makes a significant distinction that, we imagine, has nothing to do with the 20 million copies sold. Life is Strange was published on almost every platform available at the time, including the PS3, and managed to sell one million copies in just 2015. It would ultimately receive a PS4 remaster in 2022.
Since then, the price has been drastically reduced in many deals, and both versions have been available on PlayStation Plus not to mention on other platforms like Xbox or Switch. In light of that, it was clear how so many gamers were able to obtain a genuinely excellent game. To put things in perspective, any method you choose to acquire 20 million players to start playing your game is swimming in the same water as games like Cyberpunk 2077, Assassin’s Creed: Valhalla, and Elden Ring.
About Life Is Strange
The External Studios division of Square Enix is the publisher of the Life Is Strange series of narrative adventure games. The Dontnod Entertainment-created series made its premiere in 2015 with the release of its five-episode initial chapter. Life Is Strange: Before the Storm, a prequel produced by Deck Nine succeeded it. It was published in three parts over the course of 2017, with an additional downloadable content (DLC) episode arriving in early 2018.
Life Is Strange: True Colors, the third major chapter, was published in its entirety on September 10, 2021. In February 2022, a remastered compilation of the first game and its prequel was also made available. In-universe novels and a comic book series modeled around one of the original game’s alternative endings have been produced by the series.
Max Caulfield, an 18-year-old photography student, is the main character of the story. She learns that she may rewind time at any time. Which causes her to make decisions that would cause the butterfly effect. The story is altered by the player’s choices both throughout the story’s development and after time travel is permitted. The character development, rewind game concept, and exploration of forbidden issues were highly praised aspects of Life Is Strange, which won praise from critics. The vocabulary employed, the lip-syncing, and the story’s tonal flaws were among the criticisms leveled.
Gameplay
Third-person, visual adventures make up the Life Is Strange video game series. Through object examination and manipulation, the player may solve puzzles through fetch missions and environment modification. The player is able to interact with non-playing characters and explore different areas. There are conversational branching alternatives in dialogue interactions. Dialogue decisions can sometimes change the plot by having immediate or long-term effects. Every option has the potential to have better long-term effects than poor ones.
