Nandan Nilekani
Nandan Nilekani was the Chairman of the Unique Identification Authority of India (UIDAI). In 1981, Nilekani was one of the founders of Infosys and became the chief executive officer of Infosys in March 2002 and served as CEO of the company through April 2007.Nilekani joined Indian National Congress in March 2014 and contested from the Bangalore South constituency where he lost by 228,575 votes to BJP candidate Ananth Kumar in the 2014 Lok Sabha election.
Nilekani studied at the Bishop Cotton Boys’ School and St. Joseph High School Dharwad, Karnataka PU College Dharwad and received a bachelor’s degree in electrical engineering from the Indian Institute of Technology Bombay, Mumbai.
Raghuram Rajan
Raghuram Govind Rajan is the current and the 23rd Governor of the Reserve Bank of India. Rajan was chief economic adviser to India’s Ministry of Finance during the previous year and chief economist at the International Monetary Fund from 2003 to 2007. He is on leave of absence as a professor of finance at the graduate business school at the University of Chicago.
He did his schooling from 7th to 12th standard in Delhi Public School, RK Puram and graduated from the Indian Institute of Technology, Delhi with a bachelor’s degree in electrical engineering in 1985, after which he acquired a Post Graduate Diploma in Business Administration from the Indian Institute of Management Ahmedabad in 1987. He won Director’s Gold Medal in IIT Delhi and was a Gold medalist at IIM Ahmedabad. He received a Ph.D. in Management from the MIT Sloan School of Management in 1991 for his thesis titled “Essays on Banking”.
Nikesh Arora
Nikesh Arora is the Vice Chairman of SoftBank Corp. and CEO of SoftBank Internet and Media, Inc. (SIMI). He left Google in July 2014 resigning from the post of Senior Vice President and Chief Business Officer.
Nikesh graduated from the Indian Institute of Technology (BHU) Varanasi, India with a Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering in 1989.He holds a degree from Boston College and an MBA from Northeastern University. He also holds the CFA designation.Nikesh Arora worked for Deutsche Telekom, Putnam Investments and Fidelity Investments.
Vinod Khosla
Vinod Khosla is an American businessman listed by Forbes magazine as a billionaire. Khosla made his early fortune as one of the co-founders of Sun Microsystems, a company which created the Java programming language and Network File System (NFS) after his departure as founding CEO and chairman in the early 1980s. Khosla formed his own venture capital firm, Khosla Ventures in 2004. The firm is based in Menlo Park, California,and manages approximately $1 billion of investor capital as well as investments funded by Khosla himself.
Khosla read about the founding of Intel in Electronic Engineering Times at the age of fourteen and this inspired him to pursue technology as a career. He attended Mount St Marys High School in Delhi. He went on to receive multiple degrees from the Indian Institute of Technology Delhi (Bachelor of Technology in Electrical Engineering), Carnegie Mellon University (Masters in Biomedical Engineering), and Stanford Graduate School of Business (MBA).
Amit Singhal
Amitabh Kumar “Amit” Singhal is senior vice president and software engineer at Google Inc., a Google Fellow, and the head of Google’s core ranking team.
Singhal received a Bachelor of Engineering degree in computer science from IIT Roorkee in 1989.He continued his computer science education in the United States, and received an M.S. degree from University of Minnesota Duluth in 1991.
Singhal continued his studies at Cornell University in Ithaca, New York and received a Ph.D. degree in 1996. At Cornell, Singhal studied with Gerard Salton, a pioneer in the field of information retrieval, the academic discipline which forms the foundation of modern search. John Battelle, in his book “The Search” calls Gerard Salton “the father of digital search.” He got interested in the problem of search in 1990 at the University of Minnesota Duluth. After getting a Ph.D. in 1996, Singhal joined AT&T Labs (previously a part of Bell Labs), where he continued his research in information retrieval, speech retrieval and other related fields.
Manohar Parrikar
Manohar Gopalkrishna Prabhu Parrikar is a member of the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) in India, and Defence Minister in the Government of India. Before being inducted into the Council of Ministers of the Union Government on 9 November 2014, he was Chief Minister of Goa, first from 2000 to 2005 (Goa’s first BJP chief minister), and later from March 2012 to November 2014.
He completed his secondary education in Marathi and went on to graduate in metallurgical engineering from IIT Bombay in 1978. He is the first IIT graduate to become the Chief Minister of any Indian state. He was awarded by IIT Bombay with the Distinguished Alumnus Award in 2001. Manohar Parrikar and Nandan Nilekani, former Chairman of the new Unique Identification Authority of India (UIDAI), have graduated together from IIT Bombay in the year 1978.
