Lucid Breaks World Record with 750-Mile Drive on a Single Charge

Lucid Motors has officially made history. In a remarkable feat that pushes the boundaries of electric vehicle performance, the 2025 Lucid Air Grand Touring has set a new Guinness World Record for the longest distance traveled on a single charge, an astonishing 749 miles (1205 kilometers).

Behind the wheel was Umit Sabanci, a London-based entrepreneur, who drove from St. Moritz, Switzerland, to Munich, Germany, weaving through alpine roads, highways, and city streets without stopping once to recharge.

A Century More Than the Last Record

The previous record stood at 649 miles (1045 km), but Lucid’s latest run beat that by a full 100 miles. This isn’t just a small improvement; it’s a bold statement about how far EV technology has come.

The journey started in the stunning alpine town of St. Moritz, perched about 6000 feet above sea level, and ended in Munich, which sits significantly lower at around 1700 feet. The route wasn’t a straight shot; either it was a carefully mapped 749-mile path that tested the car’s endurance across varying terrains and conditions.

Meet the Car That Made It Happen

The record-setting car was the Lucid Air Grand Touring, the luxury EV that’s been quietly making waves since its debut. It’s not new to long-distance praise. Car and Driver named it the champ of their 75-mph highway range test in 2022, where it clocked 410 miles on a single charge.

According to the EPA, the car can officially go up to 516 miles on a single charge when fitted with standard 19-inch wheels and all-season tires. That’s already impressive but hitting 749 miles? That’s next level.

But There’s a Catch

Of course, a few things helped along the way. For one, the entire drive had a net elevation drop of about 4300 feet, which means the car likely benefited from regenerative braking, a clever EV feature that converts downhill motion back into battery power.

Lucid hasn’t released details like the average speed or total drive time, which would’ve given more context. But what’s clear is this wasn’t a high-speed dash; it was a carefully optimized route, likely designed to squeeze out every last mile.

Still a Big Win for EVs

Critics may argue that the route was planned to perfection or that gravity gave the car a boost. But even with those factors in play, getting close to 750 miles on a single charge is an incredible achievement. It’s not just about breaking records—it’s about proving that EVs are capable of more than we think.

Lucid’s record run reminds us that the future of driving is already here. And with innovation like this, range anxiety might soon be a thing of the past.
