Lucid Motors is preparing for the next phase of its growth. After introducing its second production model, the Gravity SUV, the California-based electric vehicle maker has now revealed plans for an entirely new mid-size platform that will support several upcoming models.

At an investor event in New York, Lucid confirmed that the new architecture will underpin at least three vehicles. The lineup will include two mid-size SUVs named Earth and Cosmos, along with a third adventure-focused model designed for off-road capability. Together, these vehicles are expected to bring Lucid’s technology to a broader group of buyers while lowering the entry price into the brand.

Earth And Cosmos Lead The Next Wave

Lucid has confirmed that one of the upcoming models will be called the Earth, a name that had previously surfaced through trademark filings. The Earth is expected to follow the same design philosophy as the larger Gravity SUV, but in a more compact form.

While Lucid has not released full specifications yet, the Earth is expected to retain the brand’s emphasis on long driving range, aerodynamic efficiency, and spacious interiors.

Alongside it will be another mid-size SUV called the Cosmos. According to Lucid, the Cosmos is aimed at customers looking for a balance of efficiency, interior space, and performance. Early teaser images suggest a sleeker profile than the Earth’s, with a lower, more sloping roofline.

Lucid is targeting a starting price below $50,000 for these mid-size models, a significant shift from the premium pricing of the Air sedan and Gravity SUV. The strategy appears designed to attract buyers currently considering more mainstream electric SUVs.

A Rugged SUV For Adventure Buyers

The third vehicle planned for the platform will take a different direction. Lucid confirmed that this model will focus on off-road performance and durability.

While the company has not revealed its name yet, teaser imagery hints at a more upright design with a square rear profile, suggesting improved cargo space and practicality. This model could position Lucid against adventure-focused electric SUVs expected to emerge later in the decade.

New Atlas Drive Unit To Power Future Models

The upcoming vehicles will also introduce Lucid’s next-generation Atlas drive unit. The company says this new powertrain is smaller, lighter, and simpler than its current systems.

One notable engineering change is the use of identical front and rear housings and mounting points, a move intended to reduce manufacturing complexity and costs. The streamlined design could help Lucid scale production more efficiently as it expands its product range.

Lucid Teases Lunar Robotaxi Concept

Beyond consumer vehicles, Lucid also offered a glimpse into its autonomous ambitions. The company revealed a concept robotaxi called Lunar, a purpose-built two-seater designed around the same mid-size architecture.

The Lunar concept features a minimalist cabin with a large central screen and no steering wheel or pedals, reflecting a fully autonomous design. The exterior design also stands out, as the concept currently lacks conventional doors.

While still far from production, the Lunar concept signals Lucid’s interest in the growing autonomous mobility market.

Expanding Autonomous Partnerships

Lucid also provided an update on its collaboration with Uber in the autonomous vehicle space. The companies are reportedly finalizing an agreement to deploy Lucid’s mid-size vehicles as part of future robotaxi services.

Earlier this year, Lucid, Uber, and autonomous technology firm Nuro announced plans to work together on a robotaxi program based on Gravity vehicles.

If successful, Lucid’s new mid-size platform could play a key role not only in expanding its consumer lineup but also in powering future autonomous ride-hailing fleets.
