Lucid Reveals Gravity X Concept: An Electric SUV Built for the Wild

TwitterWhatsappLinkedin

At this year’s Pebble Beach Concours d’Elegance, Lucid Motors surprised the crowd with something unexpected, an off-road twist on its luxury three-row SUV, the Lucid Gravity. Dubbed the Gravity X pronounced “Gravity Cross” the concept imagines what happens when Lucid’s clean, road-focused design takes a detour into rugged, all-terrain territory.

From Sleek to Sturdy

The standard Lucid Gravity made headlines for its sleek profile and on-road efficiency, standing out in a market crowded with boxy, brute-force SUVs. But for buyers who want adventure beyond the pavement, it missed a beat. The Gravity Xanswers that challenge.

While the silhouette still leans toward a station wagon-inspired shape, the changes are immediate. The concept sits higher off the ground with a widened track, wearing aggressive all-terrain tires. New front and rear fascias sharpen the approach and departure angles, while skid plates and integrated tow hooks confirm this is no mere styling exercise.

Overlanding-Ready

Lucid didn’t stop at the basics of off-road equipment. In a nod to the growing overlanding community, the Gravity X adds a modular roof system with built-in flexibility. It features a roof box, an LED light bar, and cross bars designed to carry everything from recovery gear to kayaks. Extra mounting points give owners the freedom to customize the SUV for their brand of adventure.

Inside, versatility continues with fold-flat seats and a stowable third row. That means the Gravity X can just as easily be a car-camping cocoon as it can be a gear hauler for six explorers and their equipment.

A Concept with Potential

Lucid stresses that the Gravity X is a one-off showpiece for now. The automaker has made no production commitments, but unlike many pie-in-the-sky concepts, this one looks grounded in reality. The upgrades are practical, the design cohesive, and the package makes sense in a world where adventure-ready EVs are still rare.

For Lucid, which has so far built its reputation on smooth, luxury-focused EVs like the Air sedan and the Gravity SUV, the Gravity X signals an openness to expand into lifestyle niches. Considering the surge in demand for adventure vehicles—from Rivian’s R1S to electric pickups promising go-anywhere capabilities—an off-road Gravity variant could carve out an appealing spot in the market.

The Bigger Picture

What makes the Gravity X intriguing is not just the rugged design but the potential shift in Lucid’s identity. Luxury EV buyers are increasingly asking for vehicles that can serve double duty: refined on the weekday commute, but capable of escaping into the mountains on the weekend.

If Lucid chooses to bring something like the Gravity X to production, it would join a small but growing club of electric SUVs built with adventure in mind. And it could be a smart move giving Lucid an answer to rivals that already market off-road capability as a defining trait.

Final Word

For now, the Lucid Gravity X remains a concept, destined for the spotlight on Pebble Beach’s Concept Lawn rather than a dealership lot. Still, it looks less like a flight of fancy and more like a preview of what’s possible.

Lucid has built its brand on redefining luxury EVs. With the Gravity X, it hints at something broader: redefining adventure in an electric age.
