Apple M4 MacBook Air 2025: Launch, Features & Expectations

Apple’s year 2025 would start with great excitement with the rumoured release of its 13-inch and 15-inch M4 MacBook Air models. As per Bloomberg’s Mark Gurman, the laptops are reported to be deep in the manufacturing phase, speculating some possible release in Q1 of 2025. Here’s everything you know about the upcoming models.

M4 MacBook Air: What’s New?

The M4 MacBook Air series is expected to feature Apple’s next-generation M4 chip, delivering a significant performance boost over its predecessors. However, the laptops may not see major design changes, with Apple focusing primarily on hardware upgrades.

“Things will kick off pretty early next year with M4 versions of the 13-inch and 15-inch MacBook Air (these models are already deep into the manufacturing phase). As the year progresses, there will be a new Mac Studio with a high-end M4 chip. The M4 transition will get completed later in the year with a version of the Mac Pro. This will mark the first time since Apple began using in-house chips that its entire computer portfolio moved to a new M-series generation.”

Expected Features Include:

  • Upgraded Memory and Storage: Base models are likely to come with 16GB of unified RAM and 512GB SSD storage, offering more power and flexibility for users.
  • Fanless Design: Both the 13-inch and 15-inch models are expected to retain their fanless cooling solution, ensuring silent operation and a lightweight build for excellent portability.
  • Display Technology: Unlike the Pro models, the M4 MacBook Air is unlikely to feature mini-LED or ProMotion technology, keeping the focus on affordability and battery efficiency.

Pricing and Current Alternatives

While the official price for the M4 MacBook Air has not yet been released, the M3 MacBook Air models are already pretty much valued. Especially having a starting price of $1,099, these models boast decent performance, with online retailers such as Amazon selling them for even less.

Those looking to upgrade should definitely wait for the new M4 models to be released as they will provide memory and storage configurations that are a little bit top-notch than any of the current available options.

Apple’s 2025 Mac Lineup

The M4 MacBook Air is the start of a long journey into 2025, which Apple has for its roadmap. It is highly likely that by the end of this year, the new Mac Studio will also be launched featuring M4 Max or M4 Ultra chips, and an updated Mac Pro just complete Apple’s transformation through the M4 series across all computer types.

The new MacBook Airs promise to provide better performance while at the same time being very portable; hence, it is expected to fit well into Apple’s offerings. Updates will be announced as the official launch nears.
