A Career Built on Tech Transformations

Bawankule’s career is a reflection of India’s own digital evolution. Over three decades, he has worked at the forefront of multiple technological shifts, helping businesses adapt, scale, and innovate.

He began his journey in 1994 with Godrej GE Appliances, where he managed regional sales across Maharashtra. Early exposure to consumer markets helped him build a strong foundation in sales strategy and execution.

A subsequent stint at Whirlpool further strengthened his understanding of consumer business operations, setting the stage for a transition into the fast-evolving technology sector.

Climbing the Tech Ladder

In 2003, Bawankule entered the telecom and hardware space with Motorola as a Regional Sales Manager. His career trajectory accelerated when he joined Dell, where he spent five years in multiple leadership roles.

At Dell, he handled a wide range of responsibilities—from managing sales teams to overseeing software and peripherals divisions across regions, including Asia Pacific and Japan. These roles not only expanded his geographical exposure but also sharpened his leadership in enterprise sales.

The Google Years: Scaling Digital India

One of the defining chapters of his career came at Google, where he spent nearly seven years. Starting as an Industry Director, he later became Country Director for Google Cloud in India.

During this time, Bawankule played a crucial role in helping Indian enterprises transition to cloud-based infrastructure. His work coincided with a period when businesses in India were rapidly digitizing, making his contributions particularly impactful.

From Streaming Wars to Cloud Dominance

After Google, Bawankule took on the role of Head of Ad Sales at Disney+ Hotstar, where he spent over two years. This phase exposed him to the rapidly growing digital content and advertising ecosystem, giving him insights into consumer engagement at scale.

He later joined Amazon Web Services (AWS) in 2022, where he held several key leadership roles. At AWS, he led verticals such as telecom, media, gametech, automotive, and retail. Most recently, he served as Director, driving cloud and AI adoption across these industries.

His experience at AWS placed him at the center of India’s enterprise cloud transformation, working closely with companies navigating large-scale digital change.

Academic Roots and Strategic Mindset

Bawankule’s academic background reflects his strong strategic grounding. He holds a Post Graduate Diploma in Management (PGDM) from Indian Institute of Management Bangalore, with a specialization in Marketing and Finance. He also earned a Bachelor of Engineering in Electronics from Visvesvaraya National Institute of Technology.

This combination of technical and business education has played a key role in shaping his ability to bridge the gap between innovation and execution.

Buick Already Knows How to Build Sedans Even though Buick no longer sells sedans in America, the brand still has strong experience globally, especially in China. Current overseas offerings include the Buick Verano Pro, Buick Regal, Buick LaCrosse, and Buick Electra L7. That means Buick has not lost its sedan DNA. It simply redirected it to markets where demand remained stronger. What Happens Next Nothing has been officially confirmed, and there is no launch timeline yet. But the fact that GM is even evaluating a Buick sedan speaks volumes. For years, automakers treated sedans as yesterday’s news. Now, with changing buyer preferences and rising crossover saturation, cars may be finding their place again. If Buick does return to the segment, it won’t just be adding another model. It could be reviving an identity many thought had disappeared for good.
