Mercedes-AMG has offered an early look inside its upcoming electric performance sedan, the next-generation GT 4-Door Coupe, giving us a clearer picture of how the brand plans to translate its performance DNA into the EV era.

This model will be the first AMG vehicle developed as an electric car from the start, rather than a modified Mercedes EV. That distinction matters. While AMG has built electric machines before, like the SLS AMG Electric Drive, and tuned several EQ models, those cars were originally developed by Mercedes-Benz before AMG engineers stepped in.

The new GT, expected to arrive before the end of 2026, represents AMG’s first fully independent electric performance project.

A Dashboard Dominated by Screens

The cabin marks a significant departure from the outgoing V8-powered GT 4-Door Coupe. Instead of the traditional driver-focused dashboard, the new electric version adopts a full digital cockpit.

Three large displays sit behind a glass panel:

  • 10.2-inch digital instrument cluster

  • 14-inch infotainment screen

  • 14-inch passenger display

The center screen tilts slightly toward the driver, giving the cockpit a more performance-focused feel. Meanwhile, the passenger display allows the front passenger to watch media or interact with the infotainment system independently.

Unlike Mercedes’ Hyperscreen layout used in some EQ models, these displays feature distinct bezels rather than a continuous panel, creating a more segmented visual design.

Fewer Buttons, More Software

Mercedes-AMG has significantly reduced the number of physical buttons in the cabin. Climate controls, for instance, are now integrated into the central touchscreen.

Still, AMG hasn’t gone completely digital. Three rotary knobs on the center console remain for critical driving adjustments, allowing drivers to tweak:

  • Electric motor response

  • Nine-stage traction control

  • Cornering dynamics

These physical controls reinforce the performance character of the car, keeping key adjustments within easy reach during spirited driving.

The steering wheel also carries AMG’s familiar touch-sensitive controls, allowing quick access to performance settings without taking hands off the wheel.

Rear Passenger Tech and Practicality

Rear passengers aren’t left out of the tech experience. Mercedes has added a dedicated screen at the back of the center console so passengers can adjust climate settings independently.

Interestingly, despite the car being built on a dedicated EV platform, images show a noticeable floor hump, which could slightly impact rear legroom.

The car will be offered in both four-seat and five-seat configurations, and the rear seats can fold down to increase cargo space. Thanks to its five-door liftback design, practicality should remain one of the GT’s strengths.

AMG Identity Still Front and Center

Mercedes has made sure the cabin feels unmistakably AMG. The headrests feature AMG crests, and the panoramic glass roof carries an oversized illuminated AMG logo.

The design references the Affalterbach apple tree, a symbol of AMG’s hometown. Animated graphics showing cams, valves, and valve springs light up across the glass roof—even though the car itself no longer uses a combustion engine.

The roof also includes dimmable sections, allowing occupants to control how much sunlight enters the cabin.

Power Figures That Border on Hypercar Territory

While Mercedes hasn’t confirmed production specifications yet, the GT XX concept that previewed the car delivered staggering numbers.

The concept used a triple-motor setup producing 1,341 horsepower, enabling a top speed exceeding 224 mph (360 km/h).

Charging performance was just as dramatic. The concept supported 850 kW charging, enough to add roughly 249 miles (400 km) of range in just five minutes.

If even part of those numbers make it to the production car, AMG’s electric GT could become one of the fastest EV sedans ever built.

AMG Isn’t Abandoning the V8 Just Yet

Even as Mercedes-AMG prepares to launch high-performance EVs, the brand insists combustion engines aren’t going away anytime soon.

AMG is reportedly developing a new generation V8 engine for future models, while the AMG C-Class will soon return to a six-cylinder setup. Plug-in hybrids are also expected to remain part of the lineup.

For now, the electric GT signals the start
