Mercedes CLE 63 AMG Set to Redefine Performance

Mercedes-Benz is quietly building something serious. Behind closed doors in Sindelfingen, the brand gave select North American dealers an early look at what could become one of its most exclusive performance cars yet, the Mercedes CLE 63 AMG.

While the official reveal is still under wraps, what’s already surfaced paints a clear picture: this isn’t just another AMG. It’s a statement.

A Rare Breed: Only 30 Units Worldwide

Let’s start with the number that changes everything: 30.

That’s reportedly how many CLE 63 AMGs will exist globally. In a world where “limited edition” often means a few thousand units, this is genuinely rare territory. It even undercuts the exclusivity of the Mythos series SL PureSpeed, which had a 250-unit run.

What this really means is simple: this car isn’t just about performance, it’s about access. Owning one will be as much about being on the right list as having the right budget.

V8 Power Makes a Comeback

Here’s where things get interesting.

The CLE 63 AMG is expected to produce around 646 horsepower, a massive leap over the CLE 53. More importantly, that power will likely come from a twin-turbo 4.0-litre V8.

That decision matters.

Mercedes-AMG had been moving toward smaller, electrified setups, including a four-cylinder plug-in hybrid seen in the latest C63. But the response from enthusiasts wasn’t exactly warm. This shift back to a V8 feels less like nostalgia and more like a calculated course correction.

No confirmation yet on hybrid assistance, but early indications suggest the engine will be doing most of the heavy lifting on its own.

More Than Just One Reveal

The CLE 63 wasn’t the only highlight at the dealer event.

Mercedes also showcased an upcoming AMG G63 Cabriolet a four-door, open-top version of the iconic SUV. It’s expected to enter production around Q3 2027, with a U.S. launch likely in 2028.

Then there’s the next GT Black Series. Details are still tight, but expectations are high. If it follows tradition, it’ll push beyond the already potent GT 63 Pro and lean heavily into track-focused performance.

Balancing ICE and Electric Futures

While the V8 headlines grab attention, Mercedes isn’t slowing down on electric.

Dealers were also shown a new generation of electric AMGs, including a successor to the AMG GT 4-Door Coupe. An SUV variant is expected by 2027, followed by a coupe-style version in 2028.

On the broader Mercedes lineup, the next E-Class is set to arrive first as an EV, with hybrid and petrol versions following later. Interestingly, this move could signal the end of the EQE, as Mercedes streamlines its electric portfolio.

What This Really Means

Mercedes is trying to walk a tightrope — and doing it deliberately.

On one side, there’s regulatory pressure and the inevitable shift to electric. On the other, there’s a loyal base that still craves the sound and feel of a V8.

The CLE 63 AMG sits right in the middle of that tension. It’s exclusive, unapologetically powerful, and very clearly built for enthusiasts who weren’t ready to let go of combustion just yet.

And maybe that’s the point.
