Nissan Confirms New Silvia Sports Car is in Development
TwitterWhatsappLinkedin

More than 10 years ago, Nissan introduced the retro-inspired IDx, which hinted at a third sports car to join the 370Z and GT-R. The latter is dead, but it will most likely resurface as an EV at some point. The Z has since supplanted the former. The IDX project was shelved since there didn’t seem to be enough demand and the production costs would have been too high. Nissan was also concerned that it would have reduced sales of the 370Z.
Recently, Nissan has suggested the release of a third performance model. There are many reports claiming the revival of the most appreciated Silvia nameplate. An Australian newspaper called Drive confirmed that the sports car is officially under development said a high-ranking official.

Nissan’s vice president of global product strategy, Ivan Espinosa, broke the good news, saying, “We’ve been doing some very early upstream exercises of what the architecture could look like.”

Nissan’s New Silvia: A Return to Sports Car Roots with an Electrified Future

An “upstream exercise” is a term used to describe a business process that basically relates to initial planning and development stages. Espinosa anticipates Nissan will equip the sports car with an electrified drivetrain by the end of the decade. That may annoy purists, but not everywhere could a gas-only system operate, especially in Europe where there are stringent emissions regulations that are only going to get tighter.

While Nissan has not released any official images or specifications for the new Silvia, there has been much speculation about what the car will look like. Some believe that the new model will be a modern interpretation of the classic Silvia design, with a retro-inspired aesthetic. Others have suggested that the car will feature a more aggressive and futuristic look.

One thing is certain: the new Silvia will be a significant departure from Nissan’s current lineup of vehicles. The company has been focusing on SUVs and crossovers in recent years, but the Silvia represents a return to its roots as a sports car manufacturer.

The development of the new Silvia is also a sign of Nissan’s commitment to the Japanese market. The Silvia has always been a popular model in Japan, and the company is hoping to recapture some of that magic with the new generation.

The announcement of the new Silvia is sure to excite fans of the model. It remains to be seen whether the car will be a commercial success, but there is no doubt that it has the potential to be a cultural icon.

In addition to the Silvia, Nissan has also been working on other sports car projects. The company recently announced that it is developing a new electric sports car based on the GT-R platform. This car is expected to be a high-performance electric vehicle that will compete with the Tesla Roadster and other electric sports cars. Nissan’s focus on sports cars is a welcome development for fans of the brand. The company has a long history of producing exciting and innovative vehicles, and the Silvia and GT-R represent the best of what Nissan has to offer.
